This is just tooltip bug on the trinket it does proc from ranged crits also

If you have tryed and it didn't work, then make another space? instead of using space on the keyboard, then use the numlock numbers ALT+255, might work.

Someone already posted what happened. It's a bug on the tooltip, it's from melee AND RANGED attacks. I had one on my hunter and it proced all the time from my ranged attacks.

if that alt + combo doesnt work.... Try alt 0160. it provides a space as well.
