This may not work as intended.

Blizzard has decided, as of the end of the Hallows End event, to get rid of the 'float event items around your mailbox all year' exploit.

What they're doing, is to prevent the 'expiring' items from loading into the in-game DB, after the last expiration date is over. For instance, if an event ends January 1st, and an item has a 10 day timer, it will be 'removed' during the reboot on January 13th for maintenance.

After that, the item will still show up in your mailbox, and even be returned from an alt who doesn't touch it. But the second you try to manipulate it (bring it into your inventory to resend or use it, for instance), the game will react as it does for any fake link or other item you try to examine that isn't in the loaded DB; that is, it will eliminate the source, and boot you from the server. When you log back in, then, that item WILL be removed from your mailbox, but it will NOT be in your inventory.

Started happening to me when I tried to use my G.N.E.R.D.S. when I had time, after the event, to finish the achievement. Took me till a few weeks ago to get a GM to confirm what I deduced had happened, since Blizzard doesn't much share such information with us.
