i can't understand how you guys get this working, everytime i press /afk at the 1 second it just leaves bg and i get deserter. Tested on eots

I've got an even easier way:
If your playing WoW in windowed mode, just "X out" and then wait 3-5 minutes, log back in and you will not have deserter.

Try with Alt + F4
