    Getting started coding an emulator

    Hey guys,
I want to code an emulator from the ground up in my spare time, nothing too fancy, hell I would to even implement a working Login server. I just want to have fun and learn new things in the meantime.

I was wondering where do I get started? I want to code an emulator for WoW 1.12.1, is the protocol (Grunt apparently) documented? Do I fired up Wireshark and read what my client sends when I set realmlist to 127.0.0.1 ?

    Thanks !

I expect it is all documented somewhere in the ancient abyss of the internet. Google is your best hope.

I know Mangos have a branch that supports 1.12.1

    Heyah !
Do you know where I could find some code of a very basic sandbox?

I tried reading the Mangos sourcecode of the logon server, I have an extremely basic understanding of it but I'm having a hard time without comments in the code :/

    Unfortunately, no.

There are areas documenting the login process, which I doubt has changed much, but trying to work out what the code is actually doing and the process it is taking is simply something that needs to be done the hard way. Setting up a breakpoint and following it through line by line.

Maybe this will help even if it is for newer versions of WoW.
