    Just to clear everything;
    You don't need to have two realms running to have local access. You do, however need to use your hosts file.
    What's the problem?
    When you try to access yourdomain.net, your PC asks your ISP's DNS server for the IP of the domain. The DNS replies with your external IP, causing what is known as realm loop.
    Enter the hosts file. The hosts file bypasses DNS requests on domains you add to it. Your PC will first check the hosts file for the domain you're trying to reach, and only then will it try querying the DNS.
    How does the hosts file work? Simple. Once you've grasped the concept, it becomes clear. Each line on your hosts file (which isn't a comment denoted by a '#') represents one "redirection".
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    This tells the PC, "Whenever you look for the domain localhost, don't ask the DNS, it's at 127.0.0.1".

    So how would we use it for our advantage?
    Simple. Since the DNS replies with our external IP, we want to bind our domain to 127.0.0.1, like so:
    127.0.0.1 yourdomain.net

    And Vista runs emulators just fine.

    Your answer was awesome. thanks for taking the time to spell it out. Hopefully this topic is well named, a lot of people are having this issue no doubt...

    For those of you reading this.

    NOTE:

    Read the complete topic before making modifications. A lot of the information in this topic was not needed and the forums suggest a lot of changes. If you tried a lot of setups, it's best to just Uninstall the Panex Repack and Reinstall.

    To solve the "Friends can connect but i cant" issue, as applied to someone who is serving a Panex 6.4.2 repack on a Windows Vista System and attempting to play on the same computer, follow the directions that "TheSpidey" posted.

    go to Start>Programs>Accessories>right click "Notepad" and click Run as Administrator.

    Open

    C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/Drivers/etc/hosts

    Change the following:

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    ::1 localhost

    to =

    127.0.0.1 yourdomain.net
    ::1 localhost

    Save

    Restart Server

    Log in using Default Admin UN/PW

    This will give you access to the private server you are hosting. :Sylvia:

    not working again. same problem. stops at "connected"

    I did nothing to make it stop working, and have tried everything to reproduce the conditions that made it work.

    I dont understand... why would it work fine 3 times, then stop working?

    Don't remove the loopback (127.0.0.1 localhost). You can have many domains pointing at the same IP, but not the other way around

    Address = "5.242.103.2:8129"

    This should be your domain, not your external / hamachi IP

    I'm still having problems. :/

    Edit:

    What exactly should I have in my hosts file?
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    External IP Domain?
    Internal IP Domain?

    This is so annoying...

    This setup is not stable. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

    We have NOT found the solution to this issue.

    Hosts config with all programs as admin has worked. it's the only thing that has worked but it doesn't work all the time. Usually it only works a few times then stops until i reinstall...

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    127.0.0.1 yourdomain.net
    ::1 localhost

    Maybe this is not the complete answer.
