    nice guide, +rep.

and wowlegend, you said he deleted your database. Here's the 2 step plan to get it back!

    1) Check the recycle bin. If it's there, click restore. If not, move to step 2.
    2) Get one of those programs that lets you restore stuff that's been removed from the recycle bin. Run it. Recover it.
And the magical step 3: /facepalm the hacker

Re: The Risks of hosting a public server, and how you can protect yourself [Guide]

Well, after reading this, i will say, The one that was called illidari on WoWlegends Server probably wont use the same name, but once he creates a gm account for himself, he doesnt always need to remain in a server, he hit sveiningos server, but even after svein closed alla cccounts except a few people he trusted and we all knew, twenty-four hours a day, every 5 minutes all major cities would spawn, eventually svein closed his server, and then i moved to World of hell server, where near the end of it, we noticed the same thing happening, and before you knew it, we teleported under terrain in major cities, and found that there was a small gameobject below the city terrain (or above in the undercities case) which was near the site of spawning, and quickly enough, after i deleted it, for the remainder of the servers time, there was no more spawning in ironforge or the undercity.

In other words, this guy knows how to create gameobjects that spawn Monsters periodically, and yes i did take heed to delete the monsters themselves to assure there wouldnt be a respawn of the same individual model. signs of his arrival on your server ussually include a ragnaros spawning at city entrance, odd stuff appearing on top of undercity, and some few hundred squirrels in stormwind

Re: The Risks of hosting a public server, and how you can protect yourself [Guide]

I've been using ZoneAlarm for 3 years now, and never figured out how to let other people play on my servers. Example.
I played TFT with my friends some time ago. We wanted to do a premade game, so I created 1. When my friends tried to join it said that I needed to open some ports. I opened them, but it didn't work. Now it just said that they were blocked by a firewall. Or in Counterstrike, if I dedicate my own server, people can see it, but cant connect.
So my question is quite simple. How do I let people play on my servers?

To answer your questions, Koksy, I am not sure how to do this for private servers, but Im sure there is a setting in there that allows you to Block IPs thats what you want, and for AbhorsenX please search MMOwned, you will find your answers

Well... as a method of payback, you could somehow conceal some sort of back door program in the server files so that if the hacker backs them up on his/her computer, you can acess it using this backdoor. Once inside, screw him over for stealing your server, and steal your server back.
