It is pretty tough to run a server indeed, I'm about to open for beta, and that will be a - in my budget for about $2500/mo (about 12000kr(dkk)) - So indeed.. Try to spend alot of time researching how you want it to go through, and don't forget to think about the future, planning 6month at a time is a good idea.

Did you just say $2500 a month? 0_o How the hell are you spending that much, dedicated servers that can host ~1k players are $250 a month at the most, and you wouldn't even need that at first. You shouldn't be paying your staff that much either, unless they are literally doing it as a job and do it good.
