[Epic Guide] Setting Up and Running an ArcEmu Server from Scratch!

Im sorry for all the mishaps in my reading Ive gone through thins a few times jumping around trying to skip around repeat questions - orwhatnot. but anyway.

I figure maybe I coudl ask you - since no one is helping on this other thread i was reading : http://www.mmowned.com/forums/emulat...u-3-3-2-a.html

he explains how to ocmpile a arcemu 3.3.2 whichis what i was doing - and he says to run a clean solution - which i did, but if u go down and rea dmy issue - i didnt get ANY of the dll files, the arcemu.exe or anythin like that - just yell at me if that was an issue here and ill look through again - i just dont wanna do it atm ... lol

That has got to be, by far, the worst guide I have ever read on MMowned.....He has totally missed some MAJOR needed steps, has steps in the wrong order. Man, do not use that guide o.k.? I mean, you HAVE to extract the DBC files or the EMU absolutely wont work & he never even mentioned it. It's also a good idea to extract the maps but the game/EMU will still work without them, But he doesn't talk about that either. You must also have MySQL 5.0 installed BEFORE you try & create an account in Navicat, but he doesn't tell you to do that until after. So like I said, bad guide/don't use it What's even funnier, is he tells you the SQL service needs to be running and he tells you that before he tells you to install it :rofl:
FYI, if you installed MySQL correctly, it's automatically running.
Oh, & where he tells you to compile, the window he shows after is wrong too. There is stuff in there that the compile does NOT put in, you have to manually do it :lmao:

Now, you didn't answer my questions. I need to know what programs you installed & where it applies, what versions you have of them. Like MySQL 5.0? is it full version or ??? Did you install Navicat? or a diff. program? Visual Studio 2009 express? or full version? Are you using Win XP? Win7?, Vista? What woulrd DB, if any, have you downloaded? This is all satuff I need to know before I can begin to effectively help you. Otherwise I'll just be throwing random crap at you that will confuse you more.

BTW, yes, the DLL part is in here somewhere but the rest of your question is not. So, answer mine before I can tell you how to fix yours.

I don't have teamviewer so no go there. I do have Yahoo messenger, & ya it'd be easier on that, but we'd have to figure out a time & it appears there are hours between the times we are both on.
Ya, if you have Win XP you should not have all these problems. Let['s start with "clean Solution", all that does is clean things up, you still have to "build solution" after that so you need to go back & dbl click the "arcemuVC90 - All Projects.sln" file in "trunk\win" folder.
On the window that pops up, make sure in the drop down boxes it says "Release" and "Win32". if they don't, change them so they do. then click "build" and on the drop down menu click "build solution".
When that is done, open the "trunk\bin\Release" folder. Cut all the files (NOT the folders!) out of it & paste them in your Server folder. Then open the "trunk\bin\Release\script_bin" folder & cut everything in there & paste them in the "Script_bin" folder you have in your servers folder. This is all assuming you have nothing in your server folder except other folders! If there are files in the server & script_bin folders, delete them first!
The next thing is go to the "trunk\extras\arcemu-windows-libraries\DLL Files" folder & copy files "libeay32.dll" & "libmySQL.dll" & paste them in your server folder.
To get to this point I had to assume you did everything right up to this point like copying the correct stuff from the EMU's VC folder over to the VS 2008s VC folders. & that you compiled, changed & copied the zlib & pcre lib files correctly. If you DID NOT do that or are unsure if you did it, DON'T do any of the above & give me screenshots of the contents of "Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\bin" & "Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\include" folders.
seperate from the above, Can you open Navicat & see the DBs "char", "logon" & "world"?

Well I just looked, the pics are still there so......Do you have ad block or something turned on blocking images from certain hosting sites maybe?
Since I & others can see the pics, it's gotta be on your end so I'd check your settings & see what might be blocking the images

Hey, Sorry for sending you to many messages but its late and im tired and i jus twant to get this working well i saw that i needed to add the database name and stuff which i missed in world.conf, i done that but now i get spammed saying this when i launch arcemu world



and later on i get spammed saying this:

after this i thing everything will work correctly, but what does it mean in wrong format?

That means you are using the wrong DBC files. Did you get them from the net? or did you extract them yourself? are you using older ones you already had?
Assuming you are setting up the most recent version of everything, then you would be using game version 3.3.0, you need DBC files from that version of the game & that problem will go away.

Oh ok thx mate, so where would i get these recent versions? from my wow folder?

and what patch is my server on? how do i know, i just followed this guide and completely forgot about the patch.

Also, any idea where i can learn about how to update a server to the newest patch? dont worry if you dont know.

i got the dbc files from a 3.3.2 repakc and put into mine, so i guess my version is 3.3.2

By the way, im a beginner and i wana learn more about this sort of stuff.

So yeah where would i go to update to new patch? without loosing all my characters, items, objects ingame?

Plus, every time i update, will i need to get new DBC files? or will they update automatticaly, and will i only be able to get the newest patchwhen ArcEmu brings it out?

Okay Im back Psycho. But I want to start from scratch - send me somewhere. New DBC files etc.

o.k....not sure exactly what you mean by "from scratch". Just the EMU itself? or ALL programs? Either way I guess since the guide didn't work for you, lets try the Arc wiki. You will still have to get an external world DB, but we wont bother with that until you get to that point. So, Go here -->link
that is ArcEMUs main wiki page. Start where it says "Getting Started". You want to click the link under it where it says "Getting the source code". Read & do everything needed on that page, then come back to the main page & click the link "Compiling: Windows". Again, read & do what is needed.
Wow, I just skimmed over the compile windows page & it has REALLY changed since I set up my server! Should work fine though
I suggest you do not enable collision (collision makes "line of site" work meaning if the target is behind a tree or building, you get a "target is not in line of site" message & wont fire/attack it, without collision, you can shoot thru walls/trees/etc.), The reason is, it takes anywhere from 3 to 6 hours just to compile the vmaps for it plus another hour or 2 to get the compiler itself, run the extraction. It's just a big pain. If you want it later, we can always go back & do it.
When done with that page, again go back to the main page & then click "server configuration", do it, then back to main, click "database setup", do it, back to main, then if you want the lua scripts enabled, click "lua setup" & do that.
BTW, I noticed it gives links for various world DBs in the database setup part so we won't have to go back to that like I thought.
If you followed all of it correctly & didn't run in to problems, you should have a working server @ that point. I am going to assume you will run in to problems though because sometimes the wiki isn't really clear. So, if & when you hit a snag/problem, let me know & we can set up a time to work thru Yahoo messenger k?
