great guide, working on it now thx![]()
ok, so i hit my first snag...everything till the database, when i put "/svn.xp-dev.com/svn/whydb-users/' in the SVN url thing, the whydb-users checkout opens up but nothing happens after, it doesnt start downloading the files![]()
Never heard that problem before...No idea what to do about it either. maybe it need the entire address "http://svn.xp-dev.com/svn/whydb-users/" but I doubt that is it. I guess you could go on the forums & see if anyone there has any idea. The link to the forums & SVN is www.whydb.org

Now I can get in my server but whenever I try to say anything it says I can't speak that language......
I think part of it might be my DB.... where could I go to keep an up to date database.... also..... what do you think I should use for the most reliable/stable server core and database?

With ArcEMU the best DB is WhyDB. WhyDB is made for Arc & Vice Versa. Also, to have the least amount of problems/incompatibilities, use the latest version of both.
Now, as for the most reliable/stable server core DB? Totally subject to opinion. As for what I have seen, Arc/Why is the best Ascent based server though any server based on Ascent has inherent problems because it started on a problematic base (I'll prolly get some angry people commenting on THAT one)
The other side would be TrinityCore2 (which is only up to 3.1.3 FYI) which is an offshoot of Mangos. It's supposed to be the best of all the Mangos based cores but I get that from hearsay. I know very little about it & have never set-up a server with it but I do PLAY a server that uses it & it is WAY more stable/complete than my Arc server. But for all I know, that could be the work of the dev's on that Pserver so... There ya go. Hope that answers your Q somewhat

Well I already kind of answered that. But, I have no reference on setting up a Pserver with Trinity or ManGOS (both mangos based). My only reference is the server I play on & it is WAY better than any Ascent based server. BUT that doesn't mean it's better, it could just be some great Dev's that do all the work @ that server. As for Ascent based, From my experience, ArcEMU (the one this thread ApplePi made is written for) is the best. And also from what I have seen, Arc is easier to use/compile than Trinity core.
Again, this is just my opinion! There are others who would take the exact opposite view on this!

I seem to have an issue when it comes to compile ad.exe ... I get this error:
and I believe it has something to do with a zlib.lib.Code:1>Linking... 1>LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'zlib.lib' 1>Build log was saved at "file://c:\SERVER\Source\ArcEmu\branches\extras\map_extractor\release\BuildLog.htm" 1>ad - 1 error(s), 14 warning(s) ========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ==========
I've set the Config. Manager to Relaease and Debug but at both I get the same thing...
Has anyone had this problem before? Some help would be apreciated.
Anyway This guide is very good I love it love it love it!If I could I'd rep

Going to use this right now!
I believe I read somewhere on the Arc site that the Ad.exe & MPQE extractors aren't working correctly in the SVN. You can just go to their wiki page & DL the current ad & mpqe already compiled. Link-->http://www.arcemu.info/wiki/index.ph...iling:_Windows. Scroll down to "Step 3: Obtaining maps/DBC file" & there are links to DL them.
BTW, if there IS a problem with your "zlib.lib" file, the top of that same wiki page explains how to compile, where to get it/them & where to put it/them
