Latruswki , To play wow you have to do payment , and wow belong to blizzard.

Anything that makes you create or play a server without paying is against them, therefor ascent is illegal.

Although ascent is custom made , it does the same thing wow does and has , and thats what burlex is aiming for which is illegal..

Ascent no matter what its said it will always be illegal no matter what , aswell as every single emulator out there.

Alright so from what I understand Ascent CAN be legal if:

You bought the game legally at a store, although YOU DIDN'T register an account. When you register a account, that's when you agree to the terms. So if you haven't signed/agreed and terms& agreements, then your fine because you never agreed to not making a emulated server.

Correct me if I'm wrong, this sounds like something much too obvious.

let me take your post again:

-> If you pay for the client, you are rightfull owner and are allowed to take it appart and even use the seperated stuff... (by law, that are the DBC,map, DB)
-> it does not do the same thing as wow... this is the tricky part... ascent itself does not include ANY of blizzards stuff... you need client, DBC,DB,(maps)... with ascent it is possible to use that info to emulate wow but without that stuff ascent is just another program, yes burlex made it to emulate wow but he was smart enough not to build in the DBC files and all into the core, so he doesnt use any of blizz stuff and doesnt copy there code.... (now we exluded DMCA, reverse engineering stuff etc)
-> also the law says if you bought software you can take it appart and use it in any other way u wish (private use! if you use public or release under other name you are violating copyrights)

So actually ascent itself is fully custom program that has nothing to do with blizz what so ever (without DB,DBC, blablabla), that makes blizz unable to sue ascent or people who use emus for private use (if they bought the client)

there have been simular situations with emulators and normal software companies... i am looking if i can find them back...

yes but i have 2 things to say about that
-> when you buy the client you can take it appart and use the seperated stuff private (by law, said that already ^^)
-> ascent has nothing to do with the client... it CAN be used with client files and it is allowed to use with client files if you paid for the client and only private use... (by law) but ascent itself has nothing to do with the client... its just another program....

well all can have opinions about it... i know my statements are true and correct now i feel sick after reading some law ^^

did you know that in 18xx when someone for example cut you with a knife, you were allowed to cut him back 2 times XD you could even cut of his hand xD bah oldschool laws

No more illegal than than the powerleveling services and gold sellers out there. And many people on ebay sell their gold. So to many cases to file, so in short I believe if Blizzard is worried about the private servers, they would go after any that have a large player base.. but, what do I know,, :tongueout:
