Server still running while computer off ZOMG!

Okay, so I had this epic thought...

What if your server could run without you turning your computer on?

This is possible. I know that you can input a command console into html and upload it to the internet, that way ascent.exe, logonserver.exe etc. can be online and constantly running.

    One problem..
If anyone finds where you keep the ascent.exe, logonserver.exe running on the internet, they can stuff around with it and mess up your server lol.

But this is a thought, not sure if it will work.

It wont work , because if it is on the internet , than you will need an online mysql for it to work.

If something is on the internet, its not just 'on' the internet. It has to be hosted somewhere.

Technically, there IS a way to do this as I have done it before. It's a little tricky, yet incredibly simple. Just run it off of an external drive that has a network port on it....then make it have it's own charger, and boom....you're done. it'll take some configuring depending on your rg that you're connecting through, but if you're not running a dedicated, then you're fine

The problem when you host a server when your computer is off (not possible) or a small dedicated box in low power mode, is that the server is going to be extremely laggy. The best servers, even ones hosted off PCs or Macs or whatever, are servers that have the maximum resources possible. If you want to run a decent server, you are going to need to give that server the best system, hardware, and software resources you can.

Ideally a small linux PC set up as a server box would be perfect, and I hope that I can find some software that will do this, but really all you need is the box powered on, doesnt need a monitor, mouse, or keyboard, just a power cable and a network cable. I used to run a linux fileserver a couple of years ago, and it was totally self booting / sustaining.

You would also need scripts to restart the database and servers if they went down, and probably the machine networked with a remote software control panel so you could change the settings without having to touch that machine.

Im just blathering here, but I hope that I can do this one day!
