    The Pre-TBC Feeling

    Hello there!
As many of you I played in pre-TBC, and feel like WoW went straight downhill shortly after the TBC (Tuberculosis of WoW) release, and now in Wotlk WoW is just fragments of what it used to be.

So I was thinking, what was it really that made Pre-TBC so fun? The struggle for gear, money, the hard instances and raids and the world PvP?
I know I miss those things.

As in today, gear is attainable in as much as 1 day played to get full heroic epic geared, takes a few hours to get 5000g with the right professions, the easy instances without the "happy-go-lucky" feeling to it, the laughable raids that you can find a pug for in 5 minutes, and the World PvP... The most World PvP you can get today is hunting low levels in Borean Tundra.

So to bring back everything you wish there was a pre-tbc server, right?
But since no one has a pre-tbc server, and it's a pain in the ass to uninstall WoW, patch it up to 1.12 and then download repacks to set up the server, I got an idea.

Now this would take a lot of time, but I think it is much easier than making a 1.12 server.
If you had a 3.1.1+ server, and limited the level to 60, set the flags of all players accounts to Pre-TBC, and just created dungeon set 1 or 2 vendors, and level 60 item vendors, and then let the people do pre-tbc instances for better gear as in pre-tbc, then you'd practicly have a 3.1.1 pre-tbc server, right?

I don't think of this as a real "request" therefor I posted it here, I was just thinking of posting it here so people have something to think about, maybe even create a 3.1.1 pre-tbc server.

There is probably a lot of flaws in my theory, but I just wanted people to think of this.

Peace out, all Pre-TBC lovers!

So true, I also enjoyed the game more playing back then. First I would go for that there's something about how the game where made back then, as NPC's didn't look too powerful, mostly wearing low level clothes, compared to today where all NPCs shines in their sharp - epic armor.

And of course most of the environment where different back then, giving you a pretty comfortable feeling. Then when it comes to endgame it where a really fun experience raiding with 39 other players. (IMO) And you're a lucky guy if you have encountered the huge PvP Wars in the Crossroads @ Barrens. ^^

And about creating a 3.+ Pre BC server, I find it amusing as in this moment I am writing this am I setting up a server like that. 3.0.9 - Pre BC.
However I am realizing that there will be problems with this, as the talents have changed greatly and a brand new PvP system.

But as a conclusion your "theory" about a Pre BC server working like this could work out, however it may require a minor modification.

Hmm. Some nice ideas that could help with my server Mines Pre TBC. I was planning on going to 3.0.9, disabling TBC and WOTLK talents, comparing it with a pre tbc talent tree they arnt far off tbh. TBC is closer tbh but i think alot of people would rather patch 3.0.9 than 2.4.3 plus 2.4.3 lacks the working LoS unless you go MaNGOS.

I run a Blizzlike pre-TBC server on the 2.4.3 patch. Mangos ofcourse.

and I can tell you that it has been - and is - a great deal lot of work to tweak and modify it for players to get a "real pre-TBC" feeling. On core and database level.

As everyone knows, its not just setting the lvl cap to 60 and disabling some talents let alone if you would want to do this for 3.0.x

Performer may I know how you disabled the talets?

As a side note: I'm going to try script all the Pre BC boss encounters - Instanced and Outdoor - I can gladly share them with MMOwned when I'm done.

All you have to do is put the spell ID's in the spell_disable table... not that hard.

Yeah, yeah. I'm sorry I thought even if i disabled the spell people could still spend their. Talent on it.

If it's me your using as an example, then you must know that the answer is not right in from of my eyes, as if you had experience with it and had done it before.. then it would've been an answer right infront of my eyes.

The answer is right in front of you. You can eliminate MOST of the post Pre-TBC content with a few DB queries and a few core edits. And yes, I have made a Pre-TBC realm :P

Actually gastric im afraid that dosent work and you can still put points in the talent. Theres another way. That only works for castable spells like the end talents.

It's not a new idea, there are many servers doing this already

The problem with 1.12.x is not the patching, it's the emulators that are too unstable and bugged. It would take a really long time to update and reimplement everything new. It's probably easier to convert a current emulator to the 1.12.x client, a lot of changes would be needed before you can actually connect but it would be worth it in the long run. As more and more threads about pre-tbc are showing up now after WotLK i'm sure a project like this will be made soon.

The closest you can get now is probably 2.4.3 since it's the most stable and bugfree patch on most emulators. And I agree with Eleatha, 3.0.x+ gameplay is way too different even if you disable talents and remove tbc/wotlk content, there are so many changes made to the game. And patch doesn't matter, players who really want pre-tbc will install the needed patch.

If the spell_disable table only makes spells uncastable they will still be learnable from the talent tree, but they are still disabled. Each talent rank has different spell ID so just make sure to disable all ranks. The correct/best way however would be disabling the actual talent ID, the talent wont be learnable and only the first rank needs to be disabled (core edit required).
