OK, so far what I've found that works the best for me is a copy of Mangos 3200 with SD2 version 24 (precompile) and a copy of SDB 0.6.1 that I've installed over the older copy of Mangos Platinum. I'm not sure why, but that database took hours to import with Navicat instead of the usual 6 to 15 minutes. But the good news is it works well. The problem with the Mangos Platinum here is the zeppelins were acting up and docking in odd ways. In 3200 it's fixed, but I was having a problem with the Blizzard spell crashing the client. I applied some of the newest sqls the emu included as well as the ones in the SD2 folder and it went away. There may still be issues, we all know pets tend to be buggy on emus and I have yet to try a Warlock and Hunter yet, so I'm still checking it over. I might upload it somewhere when I'm satisfied with it's functionality. I'm convinced I've found the best 1.12.1 setup available though, I just need to tweak it.
Most of the other repacks here using WowEmu are actually something else, they are 1.11.x and maybe even earlier. They need the hack that makes the login screen look like BC (the Mangos does not), they stop at T2 (1.12.1 has T3), the talent trees are different, your riding skills are mount-based (Skeletal Horse Riding for example), etc. It's like playing a totally different game, though not necessarily a bad one. Unfortunately, I can't find any of these 1.11.x ones for which the zeppelins work, though I haven't tested the HW2 one, it does look newer so it may be quite the epic find if they work in that one, Ground Zero. I have obtained the WowEmu 1.11.x server by itself, so, there may be a fix available by copying that over as well. A workaround for the Org-UC zep would be easy with portals, but trying to create a custom portal to Grom'Gol when it's using a strange database that I'm unfamiliar with (I don't even know what folder it's in, much less if it's sql-based) would be a nightmare.
CoolManBob, that's great news. I think it's cool someone's working on the original game while everyone else rushes to add the latest features (most not caring if they even work right, apparently). Will you consider creating one for BC 2.4.3 as well? That is, when the original game is complete, of course. We can't expect expansions to work properly without the main game fully supported first, so, I would neither expect nor desire you to do any of BC without completing the original game, regardless of how long that takes. Call me crazy but I'd rather have a complete and properly working server that's an expansion or two behind than a new one that's broken. I like the new stuff though, so I hope you won't stop at the original game (nor BC for that matter).
Now that I'm aware there's huge differences even between 1.11.x, I'm wondering if maybe I need 1.0.x and 2.0.x emus and clients. I'm even thinking maybe I shouldn't have updated my Lich King client to 3.1.0 without backing up the 3.0.9 now.

I would enjoy this alot because imho 1.12.x was the most epic version of WoW released.
WOTLK and TBC made all WoW modders' lives harder and made more amazing Private Servers less and less easy to create.
1.12.x had no major bugs that were miraculosly fixed by the expansions and the reason i even played WoW was for the lore and stuff. TBC didnt follow the same path as WoW and WOTLK did and even WOTLK has a few major client downsides.
I will enjoy making the most god damned tehepic repack with original Ascent code.
I belive 1.12.x Ascent still had burlex! If this is how Blizz thinks they can treat us then they are damn wrong. We use 1.12.x Clint and w/o even needing to buy TBC or WOTLK we could use C++, model edits, and pure MMOwned ingenuity to give blizzard a kick in the nuts. Imho if blizzard had 1 brain cell to share between them, they would hire us Emulators to help them improve the game, not block our creativity!
/end textwall (its the polite thig to do)
You've got an Ascent-based one? Great! I didn't even know it was out at the time. Since none of the repacks posted so far use it, this will be a first. I'm not fond of the Mangos command structure. I'm used to Arc-Emu for 2.4.3 and 3.x.x releases (which is based on Ascent), so, I can hardly wait to see this.
To me, the way it seems is as if the original was deliberately an incomplete and unfinished game. They had it complete before hand (much like Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles were originally a single game all along), but they split it up so they could sell it in two parts. TBC being the second half that made the game complete. I'll admit, this could have something to do with the fact that I hadn't played it until BC was out already. BC completed the original world by making all lands (well, except Hyjal) accessible, all places explorable (Karazhan for example), and provided a legitimate place for that portal to take you to, all of which were missing in the original game.
WotLK, on the other hand, seems to me like they're just adding more for the sake of adding more. They just had a third continent at the north pole pop out of nowhere. No explanation for how it suddenly just appeared there either. Everything in BC was built on a pre-existing framework. The Outlands had a portal to take people to it already there for example (it didn't work in the original). The land Silvermoon City is on already existed, you just couldn't get to it. Karazhan was already there, you just couldn't go inside. And so forth.
EVERYTHING in WotLK, on the other hand, was added completely from scratch. I never played the original series, I'm sure Northrend is in there, but they obviously never intended it to be part of the game. They should just say it sank due to global warming causing the pole to melt (it's a world of fiction after all, it doesn't have to be something that could actually happen, so modern eco-fiasco junk science would fit in perfectly). It's obvious, as much fun as the DKs are, that this is not a well-integrated part of the game like it's predecessor was. And as I said, I believe it's because BC was complete before they ever released the original game.
So, the way I see it, yes, we should preserve the old 1.12.x for the sake of preservation and nostalgia (sounds like something a MAME dev would say, but they're the last people I'd want doing a WoW emu, I don't have the patience to wait a decade to play it like it took them to implement Street Fighter III), but the ultimate classic "WoW as it should be" for me would be a fully-functional BC 2.4.3 server. You can't have a complete BC without a complete original game, though. You have to start with a firm foundation. So, we need someone to finish the original game for once, then do BC properly. With that, I'd be satisfied I believe.
