Lol. Look at what progressed out of my statement lol.
In actual fact, Ascent have done nothing illegall, all they do is provide tools and what anyone does with them is at their own legal obligation.
WoW Emulating is quite illegal because it does state in the ToC that reverse engineer or modify the game files.
Who cares anyway, stuff it. This is fun and it gives Blizzard (The Greedy A Holes) a tiny bit more space in its bank.
Woah! Didn't know I'd trigger such a huge conversation... Anyway; uhm, its not about legal or illegal, but I was always under the impression Blizzard had a "well most private server users also use our pay-to-play servers" view on most Emu. Server users. True or not, who knows. Anyway, thanks for the advice!
Who says I agreed to the TOC? Is the TOC the law? We ain't modifying any gamefiles. Isnt reverse enginerring protected by US law?
Found it!
[edit]:Taken from wikipedia. I don't think playing WoW, then making some formulas that you put into C++ is an illegitamate way of obtaing info....Legality
In the United States and many other countries, even if an artifact or process is protected by trade secrets, reverse-engineering the artifact or process is often lawful as long as it is obtained legitimately. Patents, on the other hand, need a public disclosure of an invention, and therefore patented items do not necessarily have to be reverse engineered to be studied. One common motivation of reverse engineers is to determine whether a competitor's product contains patent infringements or copyright infringements.
Reverse engineering software or hardware systems which is done for the purposes of interoperability (for example, to support undocumented file formats or undocumented hardware peripherals), is mostly believed to be legal, though patent owners often contest this and attempt to stifle any reverse engineering of their products for any reason.
"...[W]here disassembly is the only way to gain access to the ideas and functional elements embodied in a copyrighted computer program and where there is a legitimate reason for seeking such access, disassembly is a fair use of the copyrighted work, as a matter of law."[9]
Well, I got Navicat Lite working, and the databases were uploaded (I think, the program just kinda stalled out so I figured it was done) but just past connecting and trying to make a new character who isn't a Female Blood Elven Paladin, I get disconnected from my server w/o fail!!! Anyone know how to fix this?
Try looking through your AScent or Database directories for Character Fixes. There may be something in there.
i thought i already went over this O.o
also seta navicat has nothing to do with you getting dc'd. i would check to make sure your config files are done properly and that you have enough memory to run wow the internet and a private server at the same time.
other issues might be your using an outdated database or you might have screwed up the tbc thing somehow
Alright; next step; when I start up ascent-realmserver.exe it errors "Access denied for user moocow@localhost using password:YES" Where do I go to change that to root@localhost?
EDIT: You do need to run ascent-realmserver.exe along w/ -logonserver & -world, correct? Because I'm able to log onto and view the Admin char w/o that app. running... o_O
