Hey everyone. I'm not sure if you remember. But, there was a "virus" going around on msn at one point in time about oh... three months ago. Anyways, the relevancy to this situation between it is the fact that neither one of these is a virus period. These "programs" that you're downloading are actually nothing more than a simple autoit like script developed in C++ that only have one purpose. They determine the type of operating system that you have (yes, vista, AND Mac's are succeptable) and they RANDOMLY infect your computer by saving as a RANDOM name in either the system, windows, or system32 folders.
There IS a way to combat these. Winpatrol is a program that some of you may already know of. Winpatrol is a very light resource proggy that simply tracks the important folders, and files of your O.S. If any of the folders, or files for your O.S.'s core are ..."changed" in any way the program will let you know, and ask you if the change is "acceptable."
If you're not sure about it. Before you hit anything in the popup that winpatrol makes, set a system restore point, and then hit "accept", and see if it is an attempt at corrupting your system, or not.
If it IS an attempt to "corrupt" your system, then simply go beck into winpatrol, and track the newly discovered programs to find your "culprit" then download a program called dr. delete to delete it on the next system restart.
If you pay for the full version of winpatrol, then you'll also have a reference to an online listing that has all kinds of information that is shared between millions of users to help identify harmful programs, and the resources that they use.
I hope this helps you all before it's too late.
P.S. Make sure that you disable the program in winpatrol before you restart, as this will most likely guarantee it's deletion.
THIS IS NOT A QUARANTINE . THIS IS A SHEER DELETION. MAKE SURE THAT THE FILE IS SOMETHIGN YOU DON'T WANT AS DR. DELETE MAKES IT UNRECOVERABLE.
