My development plans to support an easy UI and be light weight. I can't promise "protected" but I don't intend to use any special features that would cause users to get caught. However, there is no telling when blizzard decides to start checking for certain things. Thing is, I will likely just work on this occasionally each weekend when I have time off. So, I can't guarantee reliability or safety. There is also the freedom in the profile creators to use any LUA code they choose. So, if they do something really dumb and detectable, I can't really stop it.
I typically use patterns to find offsets, which I have had great results in not having to update from patch to patch. Typically its only major patches that can delay it a bit (i.e. 5.3 -> 5.4 or a new expansion). I'd expect similar results assuming something crazy doesn't happen with me on a patch day that requires updating.
