That has nothing to do with the ban. You can have both google and ptc with the same nickname even without one getting banned first.

I created two accounts from the start (first day of release). One gmail and one ptc (linked to the first gmail)...both with the exact same nickname. And it allowed me to do so.
So, you're allowed to create the same nickname with a google and a ptc.

I guess you can use the same type of accounts (both google or both ptc) to test if the same nickname works.

Well yes probably. But that's the whole point. Niantic leaves the broken API to work with their server. This means:
1) They can flag every single botted account
2) There's no real reason for devs to improve the API, since a partially working, though not safe one, already exists.

If the Rocket API would get shutdown, devs might start writing a proper API, which becomes indistingushable from the Pokemon Go app.

Unfortunately for security purposes i cannot give out exact source of this information. But here's something that might help : Niantic doesn't have it's own team of engineers and system architects, they only have designers and programmers. Everything else is handled by google. People that call them selves NiaOPS are regular google employees with special Niantic clearance (this is inheritance from Ingress) that are "managing the game behind the scenes". Every country have several of these people, most of them only work on backend, some on core, and some are community managers or event managers. Basically Niantic have very low number of employees, but is backed with Google employees that volunteer to help (they get special game accounts that can perform several additional tasks). Exact answer to Your question would be then : i know several of these people because of my job.

As for the matter of flags, think about them as "levels" not conditions. There are many conditions that are being checked on system level. Each failed test might net You a flag. And at the same time, a flag designates Your account for additional checks. So, eventually every person who botted will propably be banned because even running bot for like 2-3 hours makes You meet several conditions. Unfortunately my friend didn't have access to the list of these conditions. But some of them are really obvious (like assigning overpowered pokemon to gyms, which triggered war on bots in the first place). Niantic doesn't care if You automate, snipe or do anything like that. They care if You break the game for non-cheating players.

I don't see this post as a scare tactic. I see it more like - here is a good discussion on what triggers the account to be automatically investigated. It's important that we discuss this to figure it out if we want to improve the current generation of bots and reduce the chances of being banned in the future.

I don't care if You are botting or not. I've been reading this forums for some other game, and got into PokemonGO out of a curiosity, i don't even play the game.
And what i've read here is a lot of people playing Sherlock Holmes and failing miserably in it. So i decided to join the fun, give You some hints and see what You do with it.
I know a lot about google and Niantic organisation and technical infrastructure, a little less about PokemonGo itself. Maybe i will tell You some more in the future.
