    Reduce 'repuation spread' limits

    Greetings.

As I'm recently not as active in the many forums OwnedCore has, I have been repping a lot less lately and as a result, I'm not able to give rep to users who are actively releasing information which is useful to me.

As you can see, the tenth latest reputation I have given was over a month ago:

And I have not given DarthTon any since then. Yet I cannot give him reputation for his hard work:

    This hardly seems fair.

Here's how I see it: A poster who contributes something new at weekly intervals will most likely forfeit incoming reputation due to readers not being able to give him rep for the new content - as opposed to a poster who contributes something new monthly, where the readers' reputation has been spread enough for him to be repped again. So a user who contributes on a weekly basis will obtain the same amount of rep as a user who contributes on a monthly basis. That seems a bit backwards to me.

I understand that the 'reputation spread' rule is in place to stop reputation trading, though I'd like to suggest it is based on when the last time was you gave reputation to the same user, rather than how many other users you have repped since the last time you repped this particular user. For example, allow UserX to give reputation to UserY every 7 days. Even though I have such a large reputation power (I can give +7), it would still take me almost 2 years to boost another user to legendary (600 rep). And I doubt contributor/elite/legendary users would even bother to give reputation boosts.

At the moment, I feel like I need to give reputation to random, undeserving posts, so I can once again give reputation to the users who actually contribute something useful to me.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

That would actually help me giving rep aswell, as I am mostly just active on wow guides/exploits/the bawx and there isnt too many new posters.. and the people who find new stuff and release it cant get rep as i have to spread before I can rep them again.

I agree, I have not been active on Ownedcore in quite a while to be honest, and I don't think I have given any rep to people in a few months. I am mainly confined to the exploration subforum when I am active so even then I cannot spread reputation to my fellow explorers when something big or gamebreaking comes up (I sometimes lurk in the emulation/exploit forums). For example, the last time I gave WizardTrokair reputation was well over 4 months ago, I have maybe repped around 10-12 people who actually deserved the reputation, and not just meaningless posts. I agree that I don't want to have to rep someone who hasn't contributed to the forum in order to rep someone who actually contributed and is an awesome exploration/exploit (and I do rep people who deserve it in the exploits/bots and programs/emulation forums as well, I am just not as frequent in those forums.) These are just some of my views on it. Though I have seen a couple posts like this and haven't seen any change with the reputation system, so I don't know if they will change it or not.

I agree but much thought would need to take place before deciding on the reduced limit, if at all.
A person once told me in the box that it was put in because of some who constantly indulged in rep trading basically cocking it up for the rest of us.

Like I said, it would take me almost 2 years to get someone legendary at a spread limit of 7 days. You can imagine how long it would take a lower rank user; they would be better off creating multiple accounts - and they can already do that.

Quite often I see someone helping around so I give them 1-2 reputation. Then I see they posted something else which is very good and I want to give more rep to it, but I can't as I have to spread. If we can redesign the rep spread system to be more based against rep trading and encouraging more repping of people contributing lots in different areas, that would be nice. I don't know what to propose as a solution though.

The only other solution that I can think of is to have it so you can rep someone every 14-21 days.. but that would be a pain too. Regardless of what we do it will always be a pain for some.

Allowing +rep every 14 days would be the best balance between security and usability in this case imo.

14 days sounds reasonable to me.

I vote for 14 days as well.

The community that contributes on a weekly basis here is kind of small, and sometimes I can go through a whole week without seeing a single post that I really want to give +rep to, and makes me unable to give rep to good posts since I haven't spread around enough rep to give them again.

This would very much help my case with a very member of our own SatoriPDU, for awhile i barely repped, unless he has a new thread and each time he would have one i couldn't rep till like weeks after, over these amounts of time i've been more generous, but i think this idea is quite good +1 for bringing to mods attention.

It is a good suggestion, even with 14 days

Just so I've understood correctly it's simply a CD of 14 days after last rep yes? If so, +1 on the two weeks from me as well : )
