It really hard to connect to the page so it might be a DDOS attack or there a just too many people for the server reading this page.
In the secound case I would suggest before a hardware upgrade a bytecode cache(zend or APC) for your PHP server or upgrade to the newest php where it is include if it isn't already the case. The other thing is the pagespeed module from google which squeeze the page and cache it again(not the php in this case) and take a look into the option.
After this the page should be 500% faster.
In the other case shit happens and somebody got angry.
