How do you know if your receiving a Ddos attack?

For some reason wow mafia'as average latency at 45 players-50 players is 200-500 ms. Now it's 1000-1300? ( of course there are people that don't lag). My internet seems a lil slower also.

Can I just be having a bad luck and be getting many people from EU that have high msn and so its suffering the avg latency of the server? I can't say my internet is considerably slow , although at 60 players the lag was unbearable. I also added many more things to the server , instances, tokens and mobs etc...I don't know if that affects my bandwidth which cause more kb to be used per person.

I don't think I'm getting attacked , but not sure. Is there anyway to see how many packets im being sent , and what amount of packets would be the safe range?

I dunno , it seems at 30-40 players the latency is the absolute best, then with every person that joins it goes higher and higher , next thing you know , only 20 people later the latency sky rockets. Does the % of my bandwith used also play effect on the internet speed? I upgraded to 7mb today , they said it will take 24/48 hours to be activated on my internet , hope that helps...

    Thnx , Mafiaboy:wave:

EDIT: Speedtest results: Down speed = 2700 kps
    Up Speed = 163kps

Now that I think of it , my internet browsing doesn't seem rly that low....I have a max up speed of 500kbs with my ISP , upgrade today to 7mb , 14x faster lol . I think 500kb just wasnt cutting it for a server funserver with 40-60 people online. ( 2 gig of ram and 2 xeon processors 3ghz each btw)

Trust me if you got a dos attack on your server is would auto crash. I'd check how much bandwidth and cpu usage your taking up and try to reduce it.

You can check your router, it has stats about packets sent and received.

If you're running via router, set up logs! Otherwise, shutdown the server and see wether it's still slow or not!
And there should be logs on the server aswell.
If you don't have a router, consider making a proxy server or getting a router!

A proxy server would make it lag even more -_-
