    Paypal Questions...

Alright, I've got a few questions about Paypal.

    1st of all...

If I am 17 years old IRL, and I wrote 20 years old on my Paypal account, when I go to take the funds out of my Paypal account (through my bank account) will anything bad happen? I know the you must be 18 or older to own a Paypal account, so will my Paypal account be closed and I won't get my money or anything like that?

    2nd

Ok, currently I have say $150 USD in my Paypal account, and this Paypal account has all my legit information, my account is currently Unverified, but I am going to verify it with a bank account and take the money out through the bank account, now when I do this, if say a week later the person who gave me the money disputes it, will Paypal come looking for their money? Will I be able to defend myself saying "I sold intangible goods" or something like that? Idk

    3rd

Ok, one more quick question, how can I make it so when I sell an account, the other person can't file a dispute to get their money back, does a CoD (Cash on Delievery) work? Because it means they recieved their item, right? If there are any tricks like this so they can't dispute their money, please let me know!

All help is very appreciated, I feel this is the best forum to post this in, I don't mind if it gets moved though.

1 - No, my little brother is 13, and sells his goods via PayPal, he then transfers the money to my bank account and I withdraw it for him.

2 - Nothing will happen, once it is in your bank account, I would advice to detach the bank account and the money is safe.

3 - I'm not really sure with this, I would try requesting the money.

Thanks alot, this helps very much

One thing though, for question #1, would I have to transfer the money to my parents bank account then withdraw it? Or can I leave it on my Paypal account, and withdraw it through my bank account?

Oh yeah, also... are you sure I am 100% safe once the money is in my bank account? (For question #2 )

This is incorrect. If the person recalls the money your paypal account will go negative and they WILL get their money eventually or post it on your credit report. If the bank transfer is still pending, they will put a hold on the transfer and you will not receive the funds. Remember, all your real information is on that account and even if you detach your bank account, it can still negatively affect you.

As for making sure they can't dispute it, make them open a dispute and then directly afterward close the dispute. This secures the funds and makes them indisputable. The only way they can still get their money back is if they used a credit card, in which case they would probably call Paypal or their CC company and file a unauthorized charge. So to be safe, don't accept payment in the form of credit card.

Hope I cleared this up somewhat for you.

    Hello Superdood!

I am an ex-PayPal employee. I worked for PayPal while I attended college in Omaha. I worked in Customer Service and two separate Fraud Departments.

    1) To be honest, PayPal has no way of knowing your real age unless the system flags your account and requests a photocopy of your State ID/Drivers License. With this said, if you have a bank, and a CC/Debit card, PayPal assumes you are 18. You should have no problem. However, if there is ever a time where your account has been flagged and you are required to show a picture ID and PayPal finds that you are Not 18, your account will be frozen, as well as your funds.

    2) Yes, PayPal Will come looking for their money, and will attempt a withdrawal of your account, even if you close both your PayPal account and Bank account after your transaction. This could go against you as a negative on your credit score if you provided them with an actual Social Security number (which was not wise if you did.) PayPal can take the money from your bank account because you authorized them to do so when you agreed to their rules. However, you have the ability to go to the bank, with your parents, and claim that transaction as "ACH Not Authorized" and there is nothing PayPal can do because PayPal is not a bank. Just a transaction service. Saying "I sold intangible goods" will do nothing for you, as you agreed not to, and by saying that in the first place you are admitting that you are at fault.

    3) Charges are ALWAYS disputable. I had an incident where someone sold the licensing to software over eBay and was requested to do what "Black0ut120" mentioned before the buyer had access to the software. All the buyer had to do was call in and place a second dispute and say that they were required to do so and claimed he never received anything in the mail. The second dispute was open, and the Seller could not prove that he was selling a non intangible item, so he lost the dispute.

To be safe, don't accept any form of payment over PayPal as a Seller at all. Don't even accept a credit card purchase through PayPal.

Thanks ALOT! This really really helps me, the person who purchased the account I was worried that would be recalled disputed the money because it was recalled, so it doesn't matter much anymore anyways, but I sure am glad I didn't take the money and detach my bank account

This helps ALOT, thanks again, and ty too Black0ut120.

One very last question though... is it possible to dispute a CoD? Is there ANY way around disputes at all? Or should I just get them to pay through a money order or w/e

Also, what do you suggest instead of paypal for safe, legit selling for intangible goods?

In PayPal, there are no real ways to fight disputes. However, and this is something most people don't seem to understand, is that a lot PayPal employee's do Not follow proper protocol when dealing with certain issues. You may call in to dispute something, and the employee may say "Looks like there is nothing we can do" - and then if you called in two hours later, you may get helped completely.

In fact, a lot of employees are about 18 or so have never even heard of PayPal and its services before working there, and some who have, never sold anything. When they are trained, disputes are purposely one of the things the trainers hardly touch base on. Point being, when you deal with PayPal, you're usually dealing with an employee whose abilities to help you is loosely based on their own past experiences with the company. I was an eBay seller Long before I started working there, which is why I am offering you advice.

If you plan to just sell one account and be done with it, then PayPal is probably you're best option. The only way you can prevent losing your money is to self-filter, and base your customers on your best judgment. (This is why people on eBay now will no longer sell items to people with less than 25 feedback or so). If you were planning on selling a lot of things, then you should look into a merchant account service that is known for good customer service and a strong stance on fighting fraudulent charge backs. Both go hand in hand, and you really won't have the ability to fight a charge back without good customer service.

A Money Order, Western Union, Cashiers Check, Concealed Cash (within a birthday card) are some of your own personal best options for receiving Payment. The reason why people don't opt for this when buying accounts is because it offers no ability or chance for a refund if you decide to recall the account.

If you Must use PayPal, make sure to send your customer an invoice requesting the full amount plus $2.25 for shipping, and then once he pays quickly print out a shipping label using PayPal's "Label Printing Service" and register your shipping label with the weight of the actual of a DVD Case with the WoW install discs inside. Seems like a lot of extra work, but remember, PayPal doesn't care about sellers, especially sellers that break their rules about selling virtual items.

I know this post might look really big and possibly over-whelming, but I'd like to use it as a reference for others. If you have ANY questions, just ask.
