hmm not exactly sure what you mean here. not able to do step 2 till 4? (select text tool from the toolbar, drag it, and type your text. Modify the settings in the top bar (below the navigation bar)
ctrl+click is what you do on the picture of the layer in the layer pallete (i believe.. think it used to be so on older PS atleast). So not the text.
and step 4 is pretty straight forward
