Well I havn't put in much time since my main computer isn't working and my laptop doesn't run the game at the best quality but from a "First look" sort of review here is my opinion. By the way im only level 15 so bare with me.

    - The graphics, in my opinion, are gorgeous. Even on my low budget laptop they look great.
    - I REALLY enjoy the talent system. There are so many combinations of talent trees and so many ways you can spec it truly feels like you can do anything with your character and actually feel unique. (Take note there arn't any cookie cutter specs YET to my knowledge)
    - The Rift system is both fantastic, but can be annoying. On one hand they are truly an experience. Seeing a rift be torn open for the first time is epic. And if your the first one there it is even more epic when swarms of players start running in from different directions to help you take down enemies.
ON THE OTHER HAND there are a few times ive seen rifts open up all over the map. Im talking a massive zone wide attack here. This is insanely annoying. The first time this happened to me I went around with a group of about 15 players and we closed several rifts together. It was all a good time but I didn't really want to run around the entire zone so I left group and went to go quest and get some more XP. Oh wait just kidding THERE ARE RIFTS ****ING EVERYWHERE. Im talking about a good 20 yard gap between rifts. I mean traversing by yourself wasn't possible. Note ive only seen this happen once and im not really sure why it happened.
    - I can't really comment on the actual fighting in the game because my laptop doesn't run the game so well so at times its choppy and whatnot.
    - The player community so far seems a lot less.."Trollish" for lack of a better word. People don't link things trying to be funny or have arguments in the chat channels. But again im new.
    - Itemization on some items can be quite strange so beware when choosing items. Since they had to make items for class combos such as Cleric tanks some of them arn't ideal just because your a mage and its cloth.
    - The guild leveling and perk system is fantastic. Each time your guild levels up you get guild talent points. Un-like in wow you get to actually choose your bonuses in 2 "spec trees". This gives an entire level of uniqueness to the game that I feel other MMOs lack. Also your guild can get and complete 3 weekly guild quests. For example the first one my guild picked up was to "Kill 50 guardians" (AKA Alliance). And the one we currently are on is "Complete Iron Tomb 15 times" (The first dungeon you unlock)
I feel this adds another layer of guild cooperation and community. Since there is only 3 per week you don't need to team up with guild mates every day for 6 hours a day to get them done. You can just casually party up, go do a Warfront or two and your guild can level at a decent pace.

TL;DR: I have been having a lot of fun with Rift and completely suggest it. Just be warned that if you use a laptop with a motherboard built in graphics card your experience will be less then ideal.

It was fun for a few days, but after I reached 27 and leveled an alt to 13 or so with a friend I haven't had an urge to play it since.
The combat system feels horrible, the balance is horrible and I don't see how they will ever balance that game.
Rifts are fun until you've done your first invasion, then they are an annoyance.
BG's would be fun if the balance and combat system wasn't horrible.
The quests are extremely grindy and boring.
Dungeons were decent, some nice ideas but still, the combat system ruined this too for me.

Pretty much the only thing about Rift I found fun after a while was the talent system, that is also what I can see as a potentional killer for that game. How the hell will they balance it.

Its a pretty nice visual experience, would recommend it over wow, however if wow-like stuff has bored you terribly this may not impress you greatly, but as with anything don't know if you like it until you give it a go.

What class did you play? I play a cleric and both DPS/combat and healing seem fine to me. Haven't tried the other classes though.

I would compare it to WoW, but it has this fresh breath to it which makes it really enjoyable. I enjoy WoW, but over 6 years, it does become boring, let's face it. It's the same stuff you do after every expansion, RIFT is basically WoW, but with ne graphics, new game mechanics, that's why I enjoy it.

I can't say enough good things about this game. My first toon was a warrior, so I sort of had it easy while leveling. Reaver/riftblade is insane for leveling while most other soul combinations are lacking. Fortunately you can buy 4 different "specs" for leveling, running dungeons, PvPing, and/or rifting. Once I got to 50, the game hit me like a tidal wave. There was SO MUCH TO DO! I'm currently sitting in tier 2 tank gear, running tier 2 expert dungeons for achievements while the rest of the server/guild gets ready for raiding. The expert encounters are unbelievable. They are VERY HARD, so the dungeons live up to EXPERT mode. Rifting is also a blast.

For those of you leveling, here are a few tips:

    1. Heal! Self-healing wins. Downtime is what burns you out on MMOs.
    2. Roles! Buy your second, and possibly third roles. You want to be able to solo, but you also want to have a spec ready for dungeons to break the monotony, and rifting/PvP when it happens.
    3. Gear! Don't focus too much on AH gear. Every 10 levels is a gear plateau. You buy that level 20 epic, you'll find a level 25 green that beats it because you have moved past that 11-20 "tier".
    4. Craft! Crafted items are better than quest rewards, especially when paired with augments, which you often get in rifts or daily crafting reward boxes.
    5. Group! The game is so much more fun, faster, and rewarding in a group. They implemented public groups for a reason, not just rifting. If that quest mob if tagged by a friendly player, join their public group so you both get credit and neither has to wait for the respawn!
    6. Epic! Don't fall behind on the epic story quests! You get some unbelievable rewards from it, and the story if incredible.

I could write a book on the things to do at endgame, but this will do for now.
