PoeHUD - Overlay for Path of Exile

appreciate the recommendations, but this all applies to the evozer build as well. please keep in mind I had ZERO issues until the new builds. Still, I double checked all of this and all settings were correct.
I also have always run as administrator. I do run multi monitor but in the past as long as I started exilehud on the same monitor as the one with the game, there was no issue (which is how I started it this time as well). As a side note, I am running on Windows Server 2008 R2, but again, ZERO issues with the evozer build or with PoE on Win2K8R2.

I think you need to check this :

Troubleshooting
Make sure you are running as admin.
Here are some potential solutions if you are getting a blackscreen or really bad flickering:

Solution 1
Right click your desktop background and select 'Personalize'.
Change the theme to one of the Aero themes.
Wait for it to apply and then you are done.


Solution 2
Open the start menu and search for 'transparency'
Click on the option that says 'Find and fix problems with transparency and other effects'.
Keep clicking next until finished


Solution 3
Open the start menu and search for 'performance'
Click on the option that says 'Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows'.
Make sure 'Enable desktop composition' is on.


Solution 4
Open NVIDIA Control Panel (don't know how to do this for non-nvidia cards, but should be easy to google)
Go to Manage 3D Settings
Disable "Antialiasing - FXAA" on the Global Settings tab
Click apply

PoeHUD throws an exception while something/someone drops item with white sockets.

How to recreate:
1) take any item with white socket, go Mud Flats waypoint, drop item on the ground.
2) or corrupt any item-dropping strongbox

It doesn't write anything. It DOES scan the memory. Then it renders the relevant information as an overlay - but unlike the say "Steam" overlay it does not actually hook into the process but run as a separate application. You can actually alt tab OUT of PoE Hud and not see it over Path of Exile. You could even STREAM and not have the hud visible

Very. It does not use any process masking and is open source. It's trivial for Path Of Exile to look up your process list and say "I see PoEHud.exe running. Sending log to GGG."

This is why you often see hacks have randomized names or use launchers that randomize them and change the process a bit to make them harder to identify. In short, the memory scanning isn't really the issue. Legitimate applications can scan memory ie Virus Scanners scan memory and so on.

So in short, it's very detectable in it's current form - but GGG doesn't seem to be actively working on that. If they were going to work on that sort of detection, I imagine they'd be targeting bots rather than this hud.

You can rename the exe anything you like, but that doesn't change the signature of the exe file itself. Unless it has some bit of randomness, and compiles at run, they could pretty easily add detection for it. When you cheat, you run the risk of getting caught. You can make it more safe by not opening thousands of instances looking for lockboxes or masters, not streaming with the hack visible, and of course not drawing attention to yourself.

Correct. The easiest way would be to get a process list - but it's also easily defeated. Personally, I rename the executable I run. So it's not even effective in my case as there is nothing wrong me me running notepad.exe...

In short, it's easy now. Could easily be made VERY hard to detect. Cheat detection is not trivial. It's also not something game developers have a skill set for. This is why you see companies like PunkBusters who sell their services to gamedevs.

GGG does seem to care since they recently learned that it tells you what strongboxes are in the instance as soon as you zone in. My account was banned this morning and I'd only been using it a few days.

Were you spamming instances in quick succession to farm the boxes?
