I would have been completely baffled by this EXCEPT that my internet connection is horrible today (I keep randomly losing connection and losing tons of packets on every ping test I do). I don't see how that can be a coincidence. I'm restarting APBU to see if it happens again.

Yeah, I can confirm now that something's going on. The past three days, I've been getting memory dumps leading to kernel panics on my server. It's only got a gig of ram, but all of the sudden, the past 3 days, I've been getting intermittently dumped and have to reboot, when I wasn't having problems, previously. I'm using 3.9b, but I can't fetch a log, 'cos I'm running out of memory and blowing out the page file. As a precaution, I'm doing a full scan on the drive.

Finally witnessed it happening. I got up this morning and had a grey screen in the APBU browser window. The status said "Logging in" but it was hung there. I pressed Stop and nothing happened. I looked at the log window and saw a message that I have never seen before. It said the Gateway dropped session. The very next line was "Logging in." I wish I had screenshotted that but I didn't think about it. I opened up process viewer and saw that APBU was using normal amounts of RAM. I then tried closing it with the X and that's when the memory usage went crazy and my CPU fan RPMs got higher. I killed the process before it got to 2 GB used.

    I hope this helps.

Quick question - I'm getting a "not a valid Win32 application" error with this when I attempt to run it. Any ideas?

Yes this is the behavior I'm talking about. What were the lines just before "Gateway dropped session"? I'm 100% sure that the experimental dead network detection code is causing this. I'm not entirely sure why but it's causing a race condition. I will remove that function from the next version until I figure out why. Until then use 0.3.8b.

That's because it's a 64 bit program. Upgrade to a modern OS to use it.

The few lines just before it were about Slot # being free, starting task. Then timeout on starting task, retrying.

Gotcha. The comp I was trying it on was WinXP 32.

Any reason for it being a 64-bit only program? While my main computer is Win 7 x64, if I try to run it on most computers I'm around, they tend to still be 32-bit.

No knock on it if it's just a preference, as I totally understand the need for developers to stop developing in 32-bit in order for us all to move forward, but sadly, I don't think even Win 9's gonna be 64-bit exclusive...

Anyway, got on my main computer, and I'm a little confused on this. I've been using a modification of the greasemonkey script which, while very rigid in what you can do slot to slot, also seems pretty smart in regards to figuring out what to do at a given level and knowing what to do when things are missing (such as most professions requiring some sort of gather and process before you can actually do the task in question). This apparently does not. How does one set that up for appropriate leveling of slots? It's even more complicated with Alchemy and its random chance leveling mechanic.

I can't speak for BaseN but I code and compile strictly for 64 bit because 32 bit processors haven't been a serious contender in about a decade and I don't even know if you have been able to buy a new 32 bit CPU in the last 4 or 5 years.

32 bit is archaic and needs to have been completely retired years ago.

It's been about a week now since i started using it and I've seen absolutely no issues. Not even this memory dump everyone keeps talking about. Granted I have 8gb of ram, not 1-2gb like so said, but I'm also running 3 of the old APB bots as well as an instance of honorbuddy along with WoW and still no issue. I just hope BaseN finds time to implement additional assest and AD refining so I can drop the old APB completely. Keep up the great work BaseN! ^_^

I have 8 GB as well. When it happens it doesn't matter how much memory you have. You could have 32 GB and it will just keep eating it all until there's nothing left.

Don't know what to tell you bro. I have not seen any hint of this memory leak in a weeks testing.

You don't have to tell me anything, others have confirmed as well as the program author.

Okay, turns out on my end, it was a hard drive issue. For some reason, my page file was overwriting areas that the OS thought was blank, but actually wasn't. Replaced the drive and have had 2 days of uptime, without interruption. Darxide, you may want to run a thorough scan of your drive. Just as a precaution. Not saying your drive is toast, but that might be a possible reason.

    I don't have a page file.

Also, since I went back to 0.3.8b I've had zero trouble. It's definitely that "experimental" bit that's in 0.3.9b that was causing it.
