    How I Beat A Scammer (Saved $160)

So I woke up today to find two transactions, one for $110 and one for $50 held for reversal. The claim was "Unauthorized Transaction", so time to go to work OCD style

    Step 1: Paypal

The first thing I did was go to the dispute resolution center, and uploaded EVERY piece of evidence I could find. I had screenshots of his screename "Seravee", then via Google I found that he has used this Screenname before AS his real name (proof that the person I gave gold to WAS, in fact, him)

    Step 2: Google

I googled his e-mail address ([email protected]), his name "Raymond Leung". After getting more bits of information (such as location, etc.) I re-googled to narrow down possibilities.

I was able to find he was in the Boston, MA area ... I saw the schools he's gone/went to. Once I found the school he is currently in, I tried his name @school.edu, sure enough I found a second Facebook with recent information/buddies attached to it.

Step 3: Once you have a reasonable idea who he is, Intelius.com

I did a search on Intellius.com when I pretty much knew who he was... Viola! I got his current address AND phone number

    Step 4: Call him

I called him. His father did not speak english, so unfortunately I couldn't speak to him. But I asked for Raymond, and so he put his innocent son Raymond on the phone.

I told Raymond that I had found him, I knew who he was, and I had known was he did. I told him I am an honest seller that had given him the gold. He had very long pauses and was obviously guilty. He told me that "he didn't believe me" (I'm not sure what he didn't believe) and after about 15 minutes of awkward silence and strange retorts on his end (and me pleading for him to do the right thing and reverse the paypal claim) ... he simply hung up the phone.

    Step 5: Report him

I called Bostom P.D., but they said I would have to file with my local authorities.

    I reported him on IC3.gov

I sent one last e-mail to him with the following :

    Hi Raymond,

We just spoke on the telephone. Per our conversation, please reverse your Paypal claim for $160 ($110 & $50) effective immediately.

    Raymond Cheunho Leung
    3 XXXXXXXX St
    XXXXXXXX, MA XXXXX

I will give you until the end of today before I notify IC3, Paypal and the Police of your fraudulent activity.

    -Danny

And he responded with this :

    Dear Danny,

Thank you for bringing this too my attention. Apparently my girlfriend disputed all my gold purchase in my paypal account. Your money will be sent back to you. Sorry for all the trouble.

    -Raymond

He reversed his claims, and I got my $160 back.

+1 but this really only works on idiots, and not someone using a hacked paypal account, or any scammer who doesn't fail at life tbh. Anyway, still hilarious and GG, haha.

I think the probability that you've come across a "professional hacker/scammer" is a lot less than a case more like this one. In either case, the point is do not give up. Search, keep searching, find new information, search with that. Find everything you can ... its out there, you just need to look.

I would've never stopped on this one. I took the "proper precautions". I vetted his e-mail address, saw he had an internet presence before I sold... Took all the screenshots, got e-mails from him before-hand from the owned account. I didn't think he was a scammer, hence the reason I sold to him .. but then he tried this crap...

I would've never stopped on this. Boston is only 4 hours away ... Probably $120 in gas I'd have to spend driving, but I would've probably gone to his house to talk to him based on principle alone.

Glad to see this. Big respect for attitude and never let people fck/manipulate with you!
