1. Get all their personal Info:
Name: First and Last
Address: Actual address where they are calling from.
Phone number: Phone Number they are calling from if blocked.
A Email from their active email address: To obtain their IP.
Once you have all this info do some background checking. Do a google(Google) and whitepages (WhitePages - Find People for Free and Connect with Confidence) search for their messenger name / real name / and make sure the area code(Verizon | Area Code Lookup) and zip code(USPS - ZIP Code Lookup - Search By Address) they gave you matches their address. We do this for 2 reasons. Usually if it is a scammer you will find their messenger username posted somewhere by some very unhappy individual who got scammed by them and through that you can find out information about your buyer. Also doing a white pages search with the phone number it should list someone in that town with the same last name either the person you are selling to or a relative.
Also with regards to doing an area code search to match their address will prevent them from using someone's fake information to steal goods from you. So if they don't match make sure not to sell.
Lastly you want an email from them. Sounds funny but it will give you their IP address from the full header of their email. Now that you will have their IP you can now location match the IP address to the address they gave you. You can do this by using places like http://http://www.iplocation.net or http://www.ip2location.com/free.asp as these will tell you the city and state they are contacting you from.
2. Safe Trading Tips:
If the person is over eager to get the trade done it is more than likely that they are trying to scam you. Most people who are legit are wary of using the internet for any transaction as there are so many people out there that think the internet protects their anonymity. Anyone who is legit will want to take their time and gauge you and your actions. If you sound professional about it and insist on getting all the information exchanged most people will work with you and appreciate your professionalism.
3. Prospective buyers and your Account:
Never give your account information without payment. If they want to "see" the account it is a good way to get the account stripped. A good way to give them the info is take the time to sit and write it all down and give thottbot links or give them the armory info(I personally suggest not doing this but if you are lazy it does work). Most people will appreciate your honesty and if you are willing to sit down for an hour and write everything out it is most likely that you are legit and care about your account.
4. Method of Payment:
Once you have agreed on a price for the goods it is time to do the money exchange. Personally I use https://www.moneybookers.com/app/?rid=4074534
as they have a zero chargeback policy. So for any gold sales they are a perfect choice to not get ripped off like you can with Paypals Virtual Item fraud. For this reason I will NOT ACCEPT Paypal as a method of payment. Paypal only works for the seller if you send them the items and will NOT cover gold sales. Paypal is fine for account sales if you send the information via mail which I will list in my next point. Other good methods of Payment are Money Order's / Cashiers Checks / Western Union. Now never give information till you have CASHED the item. They have the ability to cancel these so even though you may have the Cashiers Check / Money Order in your hand it may already be canceled. Western Union is a great way to receive money instantly but there is a high service charge for using them. Explain to your buyer that is up to them to cover this charge.
5. Sending Account Information:
Send information in the mail to the new owner of your account. Feel free to give the new owner the login and password information but as for the Secret Question and Answer along with email address you will want to send all of that via mail that they will have to sign for. The reason you do this is so you have seller protection policy coverage from Paypal and you will also be able to verify the recipient with them having to sign for it.
6. Selling to companies:
Most companies are legit but some aren't. Some safety tips for you on deciding which company to go with.
Anything outside the United States or your governing country has potential to be fraudulent. Avoid companies in places like Russia, China or any third world country. A great way to find out where these companies are base is to use a WHOIS(Whois.net - Domain Names (URL:Whois.net - Domain Names)) search engine and get all the companies information on the .com you are trying to sell to.
A. Look out for companies who give you prices that are too good to be true. Most likely if the price sounds abnormally high or high in general it isn't a legit business. They are in this to make a profit and not lose money so they are going to go as low as humanly possible to get the most out of the account you are about to give them.
B. Never sell accounts on consignment. All consignment means is they have a free farm account to use while it tries to sell. This could cause you to lose your account all together and they will not accept liability. They may sometimes offer a small refund but will require you purchase something from them to receive it.
C. Find a good buyer and stick with them. They may have lower prices but if you have a working relationship with them and you know they pay why try to find something else and risk your account / gold further. It sometimes causes you a loss and some money is better than no money.
