changing weapon type ie gun to bow

hi, i am a bit new to model editing and i want contribute a bit more, i understand that u can change a sheath position, but when i change a gun into a bow it shoots the bow long ways like a gun.

my main question is:Is there a way to change the way in which your char using the weapon?
