how to edit gear with hex editors after 4.0?

title pretty much says it all. ive been changing stuff for years now but the method i used seems to have been changed. i used to just edit itemcache, but i cant find that file anymore. recently returned to wow, so dont flame me if this has been all over the news now.

i've tried searching around a little, but really, id rather just ask the question and get an answer. does it hurt anyone on this site when i make a post? i dont get that youd rather tell me off for not searching, instead of just spending 3 seconds typing out the answer to my simple question.

glitchy released a new 4.0.1 model editor tool, just use that, no need to use hex editors
