Increased chance to get banned model editing during a new patch?

Sup everybody. I haven't seen this answered before.... I looked around a bit to make sure I wasn't making a double thread.

Anyways, I know once you model edit there's always a chance to get banned. Whether it's very slim, you can still get banned. I've accepted that, whatever.

However, a friend of mine told me that he's been model editing for 6 years that I should probably take out my model edit that I use.

(I use the ret libram proc that causes the shadowmourne swirls) I asked why. He said because for absolute safety just remove the model edits when a new patch is coming and wait until that model edit is updated for the latest patch.

Is he right? Or does that not make any difference.

I'm not looking for a direct answer because I doubt there will be one.. I'm just hopefully looking for people who have never uninstalled a model edit no matter how old it was.

Chances with patches are that something has changed that can detect certain model edits. Though, you are very unlikely to get banned banned with visual edits are so very slim but I still suggest you hold off them any patch for a week or so until you are sure that it is safe.

Patches don't need updates to be safe, they can only stop working. That is, of course, unless the files you have edited are detected instantly (http://www.mmowned.com/forums/world-...-bannable.html has a list) in which case you're pretty much screwed either way.

Cheers for reply. So should I just use the visual edit until the patch officially launches? Because right now I just keep canceling the patch every time it tells me to download it.

Make SURE you remove any files before applying an official patch or your custom one might (most likely will) merge with the retail patches and you might lose important data, such as blue/white boxes for shoulders, etc. You should have no worries if the patch is just downloading but I still suggest you move them before anything else. Bit unsure on what you really mean but I tried to answer. Wrong section by the way: we have a model editing section for questions & requests. I'll get the thread moved there.

    Woops, cheers.

And yeah, I'll just use it till I have to officially download the patch to play the game. I'll of course remove it as well.
