Model Viewer Question

I have a question about model viewer..

How does it work? Does it update it's list of the MPQ files on its own, or do I need to add it to the list? I want to see the WotLK monsters.

I'd have gotten WotLK already, but I have some monsters like the shoveltusk, which I think is a WotLK monster in my modelviewer. So it's leaving me confused on how modelviewer works.
