I'm deeply sorry for the delay, but I've been caught by work and couldn't focus on this. Anyway, usually these posts end up with "sorry I won't be doing this" but in my case it will be ending with "Anyway, here's the axe":

Texture was 100% hand-painted (NO photos, NO images or external textures used) in a 1024*1024 diffuse map. Tried to mimic as close as possible Blizzard's style.

About 2 hours work on the model, 10 hours on the texture spread through some days.

As always, C&C appreciated. Will be working next on specular and luminance maps, and maybe on a normal map even though WoW doesn't support it (just for fun).

No plan yet. Once I finish all the maps I'll work on get it in-game.

I have no clue right now how animations behave in-game or if that's possible

    Really big.

Haha I guess that ended up as a "no". Anyway it's a Warcraft thing... I always thought swords and axes in Warcraft didn't need to be "functional" (most of the time they aren't) because it's their energy and magic that causes most damage.

    alright.

first of all WoW doesn't support anything besides diffuse maps, so paint the lightning into your texture instead of using specular maps (you could just bake your texture as it is now). if you want to make curtain textures glow or see through that can be done by hex editing, but that is not my department. Also wow doesn't support smoothing groups. So if you use maya set all the edges to smooth and in max give them 1 smoothing group. If you don't do this your model will have dirty black shading errors.

anyways i use 3ds max for exporting.
you need to install neodex mdl exporter. This is found on hiveworkshop or wc3c
The mdl is converted to M2 by using tigu's mdl/mdx to m2 converter. unfortunately the neodex installer still lacks a few lines of code needed for a proper convertion. like giving the proper texture path and some other things i can't think of right now.

ill make a blog post soon about this but if you get to the point that you converted your model to mdl tigu can probably help you out with it aswell.

if you model still happens to crash,or get all screwed up ingame its probably because of some minor errors within the model. Triangulation is pro tip before exporting bto ;D

anyways hope this help. model looks pretty ace. hope you get it to work, would be nice to have another decent 3d artist on here ;D
