Smooth everything out. All the depth/sharpness in your model will have to come from your texture, because if you dont smooth all the edges your model will have weird dirty shadow glitches and not really look nice.

also when i made that go-kart a while back i found out that when you make a shader that has transpancy in 3ds max (probably also maya) the converter remembers the info. So you can actaully make fur and stuff like they do at blizzard pretty easy. so the fur details sticking out around the cheek can just be 1 flat plane.

    anyways hoop this helps

You're a lifesaver, thanks. I worked with quads unfortunately but this is VERY helpful to know this early in. I also looked at one of their models when I exported from WMV to have a look at the scale and then I saw only rough edges, but now I know ^^

Got any more tips? Things like particle-emitters and sprites (talking about that pendant, in case you looked at the blueprint) are still a mystery from what I can tell. In case you want to explain it to a beginner of course.

P.S I'll get back to making the model in a while, probably tonight. Just haven't gotten around to download a new Maya yet :/
Hopefully I'll get started on the texturing before friday.

No offense to Andrige, but it takes a bit more than one shoulder model and some reskins to impress Blizzard. That said, this is looking really nice and I'm looking forward to seeing it textured!
    I don't do tutorials.

/jk, no offense taken, I know I'm not THAT good at this. And this is just a random thing I'm doing. I'm modelling for a game I'm not even playing ololol.

Anyway since I'm posting I'll just add that I got Maya back but I have to create a portfolio so been busy with that.
I'll probably have to go and lower the poly-count as well before I work any further, ~800 something isn't exactly commendable if I'm not mistaken...

Polygon limit is around 10-15k. At least, for me that works out lol. But most of my models were custom weapons around that range, and it just worked fine for me, don't make it over 100k like I did back then because then it gets screwed up lol.

Haha, now that's over the top xD
But I'll try to downsize my number some more later. Educational and all that.
    Thanks for the information

HEY ANDRIGE! - What's up man? Remember me?

I'm coming back into the model editing scene soon! - Waiting on my income tax to get a new PC. - My other one f***ed up, so i'm using my OLD "throwback" one. I can play wow on it, but I get stuck with a whomping 8 FPS in the middle of nowhere. Can't go to any cities without popping around with 1 FPS

Anyways, I have been looking back into 3DS Max and using some tutorials updated for the 2010 version. When I get my PC up and running I'll start working on some stuff. - By the way, are you going to be redoing your Druid skins again? If not, I would like to give them a shot in the near future and have you take a look at em for me! - Let me know what you think¿

...and SOUL EATER - how have YOU been man? I have not chatted with you in a long time either. I look forward to contacting you soon. I need to be updated with how to get my models into wow again!

Cya guys later, it's 7am here and I have NOT had any sleep >.< - backing up all my software and getting ready for the new PC!!

    Ohai Synth ^^
To answer your question, no I'm not redoing the skins. I'm swamped with other stuff and I'm not playing WoW any longer, it became a whole lot less interesting when the only time I could play was during the weekends and even then the game didn't feel like it could be worth paying that monthly fee for.
I just created these shoulderpads since I'm trying to learn 3D anyway for my studies (right now though I haven't worked anything since I'm back home enjoying my time off, but that's just as well imo)

And about the reskins... are you talking about using the new models then, yes?
I can certainly give you some advice if that's what you want, but they are quite hard to modify to look better (with the limited time I spent on them when they became available on the beta at least), but it's always possible do to a DoA kind of look to them I guess.

And to go back to topic; I'll probably get back to finish those shoulderpads in over a week or so. Also, my birthday is on the 4:th of Jan! Just thought I'd let the internets know that

Well happy B-Day! Yeah, I was planning on doing something with the current models, just editing the textures.

I'm working on a sword model, trying to get back into the swing of things, but I'm stuck >.< ~ I started with a plane, and extruded to make the volume, and then used a "symmetry" modifier to make it complete... now I'm noticing that one of my vertices was somehow deleted and I am having trouble figuring out how to make a new one in it's place to patch the hole up... HALP! >.<
