hex ftw?
(fillar)
lol i meant.. nvm lol
Posting again for more post count. errrrrr i mean... let's discuss some WOW!
Must be truth! I remember messing around and trying to swap TBC login with WotLK and I remember seeing 1024x1024 textures for the login! Its quite huge if you would like to know! (The model it self!)
We can only hope that we will be able to convert it at that time, so we can continue our work!![]()
Probably something to do with whatever new engine features they're adding.
Someone will reverse engineer it, it's only a matter of time, there's only so much you can do with encryption and propietary formats before it starts becoming impractical because ten zillion other code routines have to be run in the background to decrypt said files.
Could also be like Valve's VMT format where the vmt basically tells the game what the texture is, what shader effects to apply, etc. So the .skin would tell the engine how to render the .blp.
I dunno, it's just a guess. Like I said, someone will figure something out.
^ Hock is most likely right, the fact that they have "UI" - User Interface - before them makes me hesitant to believe that they are actually skins for models, they're for some function of the user interface.
Even if they change the format, someone is going to come along with an editor, and a converter, and in a few weeks everything will be back to normal.
Update: Found what they are probably used for.
User interface - WotlkWiki - Wrath of the Lich King Information
They are also in the char Folders now.. so i dont know :S
Maybe its a sharper texture type?
