    [Discussion] Recolors

So... I'm still fairly new here, but I've done some skins, and in one or two occasions made a recolor when I had just broken into skinning, and I don't have a problem with people posting them.

What I DO have a beef with is people gawking at them saying how awesome they are. It's not THAT great. They spent 5 minutes in Photoshop fooling around with the hue/sat tool. Finding the treepaths for the model is arguably more difficult then editing the skin it's self. Maybe I'm just crazy and a bit picky at what others call... m... whats the word... talent? But I digress...

And so, I ask you kinda sirs and madams:

Are recolors as good as we make them out to be?

Yes recolors may not be as hard as model editing, but some people are happy with the model just not the color of the respective item. If they decide to share their recolors I feel you should give them credit for changing the color scheme of an item they are happy with. If other feel the same way about a model and it has been posted they might think the recolor was nicely made. Let's not thrash other peoples work.

I'm not trashing their work, I'm trashing the fact the people go crazy and say how awesome they are.

It's a start, I "grew up" in the spiriting community, I spent a lot of time recoloring Megaman, Castlevania, and etc sprites until I leaned how the sprite was constructed, from there I was able to add various parts to the original sprite to make it look like it was authentic, keeping the same pallet, coloring design and feel. From there I went to creating scratch sprites not based of of anything but my own ideas.

So yes they're not amazing and looking back on my recolors now it was horrible and lame. But getting feedback from the people in the community at the time, and getting tips from those who could do only what I envied, allowed me to advance, it's just a stepping stone (as long as you use it as one), into something more advanced.
