Cornering a market can also be pretty effective if you commit all in. I had the ghost iron dragonling trinket market for awhile on my server and I would post 20 or so at a time but I would post them on 10 of my characters to create the illusion that there was a ton of competition when it was just me. You can spook many of the potential entrants because the market looks saturated instead of healthy.

I made around 5m gold in 3 years.. 4m of that is only with jewelcrafting and TSM.
If I really want to (and not busy on a day) then I make 50k in a day (high pop server) just with JC.
But I got lazy of making gold so usually I make around 20k/ day now..

Tell you what, I'm sitting on 4-5m gold, Have NEVER Botted to gain gold or infact ANYTHING nor cheated, Never scammed people to aqcuire gold, I also have never sat on the AH for HOURS nor use any addons to help me make gold, It's all in the brains, knowing the market & using ur skills with people to profit from them.

Don't expect to make tons of gold if you can't invest time/have a job, Not in a legit way anyway. Being online on the right times rather than being online for hours is a big difference too

Learn your way around TSM (TradeSkillMaster) - My best advice i can give you.

Before i installed it i thought; "It's an overrated module, ill be better off without it".

Took me about a week to get familiar with it, i've increased my income ALOT and it saves my ALOT of time when it comes to posting and crafting too.
