Recently, there has been a trend growing on MMOwned of posting threads that are of as little help as possible.
I'd like to share with the community a method of submitting a decent thread, that will not only be more helpful to the other members of
MMOwned, but also make you into a more respected member (with a better reputation ;])
[ I ] ENGLISH IS A FINE LANGUAGE
[ II ] STYLING
- Please, if you would, use it. Granted, many of your RESPONSES will consist of "hai" and "kthxbai," but that doesn't mean that
you should post a tutorial or guide using garbled internet jargon.- If at all possible, attempt to fit your thread into a rectangular shape. When the reader reaches the end of the line, it's easier
for them if they don't have to readjust their weary eyes to 1152 pixels to the left. Let's keep it at 800, max.- Check your punctuation. Study your "your" and "you're." Capitalizing every sentence isn't a necessity, but if you want to
come off to the reader as a person of slight intelligence, you're going to want to type as if you were one.
[ III ] FORMULATE YOUR IDEAS
- Please attempt to refrain from color schemes that are hard
on the eyes and the brain. Stick to a plain set of colors, and keep the contrast low.- Use a simple font, if at all possible. Don't bold, italicize, or
underline anything that doesn't need to be.- Try to keep a consistent layout of your entire thread.
For example, this thread.
[ IV ] CONTENT
- I'm surprised at how many of you discover a new "legendary exploit" and then immediately bounce over to MMOwned,
seemingly without having the time to close WoW and think about what you're going to say.- If you have an initial idea that takes up approximately one
line of text.. rethink it, and brainstorm more to write about.- Go into DETAIL. Use specifics when there are any. Nobody likes to read a thread in which the
author seemed to have lost interest halfway through.
Last but not least, please, do not flame! There's no need for hostility on the forums, and it makes it a less enjoyable community to be involved in.
- If your thread could use some screenshots.. take them and post them (Photobucket : ImageShack) online, regardless of whether you think they
might not be ABSOLUTELY necessary. Besides, people are much more willing to give out reputation if they can see it in front of their eyes,
rather than having to scan through lines of text.- If your thread is a complex in-game tutorial which may be best reviewed and process through video.. POST A VIDEO.
There are sections on the site to free registered downloads of FRAPS, which you may use to your advantage. If your computer
is too slow to run FRAPS, you should at least use a series of screenshots. Either of these will guarantee you positive
responses and may result in added reputation :]- If your thread is more of an idea, theory or essay (such as this), you may not need any screenshots or video. If that is
the case, you're going to want to pay extra attention to the format and content of your thread, so that it may be of the
most help to readers.
Remember: focus on the community, not just yourself!
Long live MMOwned.com
