Alani the Stormborn is a level 92 rare spawn located flying around the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. He has a buff called Nimbus Shroud which makes him immune from being attacked. This buff is removed from an item called Sky Crystal which is created by combining 10x Skyshard.

Today I pretty much confirmed that Alani the Stormborn is infact the MoP version of the TLPD/Aeonaxx. After collecting 10x Skyshards I turned them into 1x Sky Crystal which allowed me to attack and kill Alani. When looted he dropped the Reins of the Thundering Ruby Cloud Serpent. Skyshards can apparantly drop from most/all mobs in Vale of Eternal Blossoms and supposedly also from the loot bag obtained from the final quest of the dailies. The drop rate from the mobs is exceptionally low. I think my longest gap between drops was around 24 hours of grind time (over several days ofc) and shortest was about 4 hours - RNG can be a pain. I found the best place to grind was in the north to northwestern area of the Vale where you find many 'Trickster' mobs. They have a relatively short respawn (2-3mins) and there's quite a few of them which can be AoE'd down together. Here's a screenshot of a drop: http://i50.tinypic.com/2qalabm.jpg . Be aware though, that these trickster mobs may not spawn every day as their spawn seems to be related to the dailies that are available.

Here's a list of the 10 mobs which I looted skyshards from:

1 - Mogu in northern Vale
2 - Trickster in north west Vale
3 - Trickster in north west Vale
4 - Cow in south Vale
5 - Croc in central lake of Vale
6 - Trickster in south Vale
7 - Trickster in north west Vale
8 - Trickster in north west Vale
9 - Trickster in north west Vale
10 - Trickster in north west Vale

Why move this to elite? Almost every level 90 char is questing in that place at least one time, and hundred thousands are there every day because of daily quests

Ugh, I still can't figure this out for some reason. The mobs are never there for me and I've done the two quests in the chain leading up to Killing The Quilen. That third quest in the chain (Killing the Quilen) still hasn't made itself available for me despite completing the two prerequisites days ago. No daily or regular quest. Am I missing something?

Killing the Quilen - Bugged? - Forums - World of Warcraft It's currently bugged because the area changes of mobs everyday. Only thing i think you have to do is make a ticket about it hopefully a gm can fix it
