The skyshard drop rate is extremely low, but I got one after only 20 minutes of solo farming yeah

If you sell the mount for 200-400k its worth the effort

I second that. Also anyone consider making a macro or a Honorbuddy profile that targets one and endlessly repeats. Vendors gray and mails also?

I've been here a few times and the mobs are never there. Is there a prerequisite quest?

After 2h 30m worth of farming last night, I received this total of items:
Skyshard x2
Ancient Guo-Lai Cache Key x4
Spirit of Harmony x10 (100 Mote of Harmony)
Assorted Green Items x26
And enough vendor trash to cover my repair costs.

I might also add that, after using my Spirit of Harmony to purchase a total of 30 Golden Lotus from the vendor in Shrine of the Seven Stars, and disenchanting all of my green items and selling the materials. I made ~10,000g. So at ~5,000g every hour, this is a really good method for just farming gold as well, not just for the large jackpot from selling Alani!
