free maelstrom crystals (situational)

Not sure if this is a repost, i searched for ZA Maelstrom crystals. To make this happen you either need to be an enchanter who can DE 353 gear, or someone in your random oug group needs to be one. You can get free maelstrom crystals by preying the forgetful pugs. Sometimes when you queue for a random ZA and your group decides to rescue the hostages at the end. PUGs either dont know about the timed loot or just forget about it. When they all leave your group, and you are the only one left, rescue the hostages and loot the treasures. Since you are the only one in the group, and everyone left, the game only allows you to roll on it. All you have to do is wait for the loot timer to expire and you'll get it for free.

I guess its pretty common to "forget" to rescue the hostages isnt it ?

I mean, I didn't even know about it lol. All pugs I've been until now, we never have saved any hostages :P

And I couldn't find much information about what is it...
Is this the same as the timed event run ?

yes, the timed loot that i am talking about it the timed event. In order to get to the 4th prisoner faster, people skip the hostages and leave it for later.

This works only if you join before the bosses with chests are killed, if you, for example, join for the last boss, you won't be able to open the chest nor roll on the item inside of it after someone else opened it.
