That is correct. I suggest using Auctionator, makes it a lot easier.

I've been doing this and the bloodstone band trick for a while and it's actually made me close to 1k gold profit. Just be careful not to buy up all the gems at low prices or otherwise you have to wait for the competition to bring prices down again.

But +1 for making gold just by vendoring. And +rep for bringing this to the attention of everyone else.

TL DR; Buy blue gems under 4.5g, cut and SELL TO VENDOR.
