Even if you can't get the items you get out of the chests to sell, it's still a CRAZY way to farm money! Average of 7g per chest, 5 chests per hour would mean 35g per hour, say you do this 5 times every hour for 10 hours.. that's a whopping 350g! Sure it'll take along time, but you can farm primal mana in between!

Mech. Chest Can Contain:

6g-7g
BoE Purple Item (random)
Scrollx1 (random)
Green Itemx1-3 (random)
BoE Blue Itemx1 (random)
Mana/Health Potionx1-2 (random)

Recommended:

Dirty Tricks 2/2 (Increases Range of Sap and Blind)
Master of Deception 5/5 (Stealth Increase)
Dark Leather Gloves (Lock Pick Increase)
Lock Pick Enchant (Lock Pick Increase)
A Mind, Hands, and Eyes (Common Sense)

There is 3 chest spawn points in Mech, and only one spawns at a time. Possible theory that the locked chests are more likely to drop BoE Blues and gems.
I farmed up to 1.2k in two days of doing this from 1:30pm to 1:00am, and you can maximize this by farming Primal Mana south of Tempest Keep in the near by undead town. After 5-9 resets you will be locked out of all instances for 30min exactly. This is when you farm primals, repair, and sell your new items.
I get about 140g a hour if I do it back to back(not including items). It is NOT bannable or punishable. Good luck farming.

This is my new favorite way of farming. I have made nearly 2K gold in 2 days with this. I don't know if it was because it was late at night or because i got unsually lucky but the first night i found 3 BOE blues, 5 gems and like 15 health pots along with the greens and gold that come from the chests. I even spec'd my rogue specifically for farming these as he is not my main anyway

This guide remembers me when I tried to farm this with my mage using invisibility and swiftness potions. Maybe I'll try it again. Got to the chest, but unfortunately it took a very long time and a lot of luck. When I opened the chest, mobs aggroed me. I guess it was the wrong chest.

Will try it and record it the next time I get a 70 mage.
