yes, it has sense. Only tabards that you can read in the item "UNIQUE" counts. If you dont believe me, you can buy a tournament's tabard or a guild tabard in a level 1 and see if it counts.

that is correct, but by unique it cant be liked 25 guild tabards, but the 5 tourny tabards count, unique is ment as in different item, but 25 guild tabards, but the 2 fire festival tabards, count as 2 different tabards

Even easier for you:
Go do the quest that gives you Green Trophy Tabard of the Illidari - Item - World of Warcraft (Really easy at 80)
Choose either green or purple.
Delete the tabard
Go to the tabard vendor in any major city
Buy the other colored tabard
Thats 2 tabards for the work of 1.

For those of you who want to have both tabards at one time you can.

Step 1 - Open reward box and see which tabard you got (Do not take it out!)
Step 2 - Visit tabard vendor and retrieve the lost tabard of the other color
Step 3 - Take your tabard out of the reward box

You now have both tabards
