Here is a good blacksmithing trick :
If your server's cobalt prices are low enough, you can craft Cobalt Triangle Shield, which vendors for 5g 54s, and only costs 4 cobalt bars.
So it is optimal to have the cobalt prices under 1g/piece.
You can make money by this. No risk, no sweat.

Common sense & server dependant - on my server they go for 1.5g a piece at best, never seen them drop under 1.4g/piece in about 7 months now.

really server dependent, and why bother de'n em since everyones running mass heroics and the prices for all the dust and cosmic r dropping fast.

There is a better way which has been posted here before get a stack of borean leather 8-10g a stack, make artic boots (8 borean leathers each) de it for 1-2 infinite dusts, Lesser Cosmic Essence, Small Dream Shard. Not a fast way of making gold but you will a profit when u do it in bulk

Well, his tactic isn't too bad, actually, but I think he failed to mention that you shouldn't actually buy the Cobalt ores. The thing is, looooots of people on my server (definately since patch 3.2) still think that most money is made by posting Saronite ores/bars and Titanium ores/bars/powders on AH. This might be true, but there are soooo many others looking for saronites/titanium, and definately if you have a slow flying mount, your chances of ever getting a Titanium vein are... slim at best. Now, when I get bored a little, I tend to go Cobalt ore farming. I just go to Grizzly hills and start flying all over the country. I never ever encountered anyone there, looking for mines.

So, if you're looking for a good way to make money and if you're a BS, well, go farm some Saronites in Grizzly Hills/Zul'drak/Dragonblight. Almost nobody is looking for Cobalt atm, so here's your chance.

Yeah I posted this a while back, which still happened to be a repost unfortunately. Either way, the reason I would suggest vendoring, is that you might get less gold than what you could get from vendoring. Vendoring is also instant, so you don't need to wait on people to buy your stuff. Cobalt started as 15g a stack on my server, now that im done with this method, its 40g.
