I've notice this when I played on my other, slower computer which had "View distance" in Video options put to minimum. When you are running around 5-grade towns in search for eggs, you've noticed that a lot of them are concealed by scenery such as tables, cactus, bushes etc. The trick with View distance set to 0 is that in that case eggs render and show up on your screen earlier than rest of the scenery does, so when you are running towards a spot where you already know egg can spawn, you can easily spot the egg from the distance. This will save you time running towards the spot to get a closer look.
I've added a couple of screenshots from far and close so you get a better idea. Happy hunting!
