A few tips for all the casino'ers out there:
Make sure it's legit!
To my understanding, you can get banned on EU realms for running a casino. It's legit on US realms until you get a warning email (see below) regarding spam and such.
Make a Unique High-Pay Game
This is the only tip that's somewhat of a re-post as I think I got part of it from here (the Roulette idea).
People are much more likely to gamble when the payout is very high. For example, Roulette is a very nice game. In Roulette, the player places a bet and chooses a number between 1 and 38. They then type /random 38. If they pick their number, they get a 35x payout. That turns 50g into 1750g with just one roll. It's a LOT more addictive to have a chance of winning REALLY big rather than just double. There are several modifications of this game.
Another option is make the game fun. For example, a modified game of 21. The dealer types /random 11 and keeps whatever number he/she has. The player types /random 11 twice. If they get an 11, they can either keep the 11 or roll again. They then can either hit or stay. If the sum goes over 21, they bust.
The standard /random 100 DOUBLE IF YOU GET OVER 60 is pretty boring and is very typical and is likely to piss people off rather than get people to play.
Be VERY CLEAR and wait for green!
When anyone joins your group for the casino, be VERY clear for the rules.
/p The rules are simple!
/p You place a bet by trading with me.
/p You then state which number you're rolling for between 1 and 38.
/p You then type /random 38
/p If it's your number, you win 35x your original bet.
That's my roulette macro. There should be no possible way for any miscommunication.
Also, by "wait for green," wait for their side to go Green whenever a trade is open. Don't let there be any way for there to be a "trade cancelled" error.
Cheer publicly if they win!
Yes, you're faking it. Obviously you want them to lose. However, you want them to keep playing even after they win. More importantly, you want OTHER people to know that your game does get winners. You need to be very cautious here, however, as it can get some people pissed off. For a "normal" payout game in which the other person wins often, you probably should avoid heavy spam and just do a /say "Winner!" or something. For a high payout game like Roulette, it's much better to do /yell WINNER WINNER WINNER!!! and hit it 5-6 times, then yell out how much they won. This is important because it might inspire that guy standing nearby to start playing. "That guy won, why can't I win too?" - It's the mentality that'll get them.
Blame it on the manager!
If anyone ever asks for a rules change, or anyone asks for a different game, or you need to log, or SOMETHING, just blame it on the manager. It sounds pretty cheesy, but it's actually pretty effective.
Cry if they lose!
This somewhat goes with the "cheer if they win." Whenever you get a player, make sure to cry oror SOMETHING when they lose. You want them to keep playing and you want them to feel sympathy. Anything else can just warrant a "**** you" or some other pissed off response. Do NOT ask if they want to continue playing.
Get the low betters to leave quickly!
A big problem with turning a real profit is that you need people who are going to bet a lot and bet it quickly. If you're using the unique game, the idea could be more complicated and require more time. Obviously you don't want to force people to make a specific bet. I personally allow for bets in a range of 1-50g. However, if someone who's just going to bet 1g every time starts playing, I'm going to start trying to get them to wake up and realize that they're unlucky. You don't want to cry to the guy who's holding back other people who will make you money faster.
Use the macro seldom!
Yes, you need a macro to put in trade or /yell in order to really get people to play. However, a lot of casinos will hit the macro every 4-5 minutes. This is pretty much aweful, and will piss almost everyone off. When you come up with your unique game idea, you want people to be courteous towards it. You don't want people to say "damn I wish that roulette guy would shut the **** up."
Use RAF to your advantage!
If you can at all spare the computer space (which isn't much when you're just running a casino), get a 2nd account with RAF and run him to org. Make the name of the alt something good, like "Gambleralt." All you need to do is have that character stand and pretend like he's using the casino. Do the whole "winner winner" thing that was suggested above, only for your alt! This'll make people start to believe that you can win!
Don't stop until you get this email!
This is the official Blizzard email for insisting that you stop:
