First off - I'd like to say THANK YOU to the original idea for this self-sustaining income! I've already given +Rep to the posts that I have found useful, and I'm hoping I can contribute to others as well.

Essentially the idea is this...

Go to the AH and buy 20 [Saronote Bar], and [Eternal Earth].
Craft [Legplates of Conquest]
Mats:
3x [Saronite Bar]
2x [Crystallized Earth]

IF you are an enchanter, you have the potential to make even MORE money by DE'ing these legs and selling the [Dream Shard] (IF the [Dream Shard] sells for more than 9 61 57 on your server).

IF you are NOT an enchanter, simply vendor the item for the 9 61 57

Based on the vendor price - if [Saronite Bar] were selling for 40g/stack and [Eternal Earth] were selling for 10g ea., it would cost 8 to make a single pair of leggs. Obviously, the cheaper you can get your materials, the more gold you make.

THE key to making $$ off of this is simple: DO NOT ruin the AH prices - if you just buy ALL the mats at a price that is still profitable to you, eventually the prices of the mats will continue to rise beyond the point at which you make money. The solution is simple: Buy the mats from the obvious farmers only (5-10 stacks listed at once), and mail them an in-game letter saying you would like to buy the materials directly from them. I use a letter like this:

HEYA!  Yup that was me that just bought the rest of your (Saronite bars/ores  crystallized/eternal Earths) in the AH.   Was just wondering how often you get them...

I'll take as many as you can get ahold of (seriously - ALL of them) for XXg a stack - just COD them to me.

Paying me XXg/stack is like posting them in the AH for XXg since they take a cut.

Hoping we can help each other out!  Just keep 'em comin, and I'll buy all you can get your hands on!

By allowing the average traders to maintain a lower market price, you'll always be have a profit margin - by snagging all the farmers you can you'll always have a supply!

So far, I haven't posted anything original that hasn't been covered by others, just consolidated some information (I take no credit for the above info, it has been posted). The shortcut I wanted to offer is for those selling the items to vendor.

AutoProfitX is an addon I've used for AGES to sell all my greys with 1 button push. By typing in the command:

/autoprofitx me [Legplates of Conquest]

You will add the item to your "Sell" list, and 1-button sell all of the legplates you've just made. On an average day I'll craft 3-500 of these leggs, so this saves me an ENORMOUS amount of time (compared to right-clicking them all). I'm hoping this helps you all as well!

8 sec cast is a decent amount of time... On my server I'll average 4g per pair though...

If you were crafting for an hour strait that comes to a profit of 1800g. For being able to do this MOSTLY unattended, and without any bots/hacks/banhammer threats - I'd say 1800g/hour is pretty good :-)

Hmmm.... Checked wowhead and thottbot. They both definitely say a 25-second cast time. I can assure you however, (doing this ingame NOW) it is an 8 second cast time.

Yeah I posted this ages ago, apparently the profit margin wasn't high enough, so it got ignored.

Either way I might check out the prices on my AH and see if its worth doing it again.

Made a spreadsheet in Excel just for this.
Currently, on 10 legs, I'll earn ~21g on dream shards and 75,1g to vendor them. Total cost ofr 10 legs = 21,05g.

I have made over 100k gold using this method over the past 6 weeks. I haven't left Stormwind once and spend most of my time AFK. The key is to find people to sell you the saronite ore/bars and eternal earth personally through CoD or a face to face exchange. I made the mistake of buying the AH supplies in the beginning which messed up the market for a good while on my server. Another key is volume. You want to buy at least 100 stacks of saronite a day along with enough eternal earth.

This method depends on your people skills. Generally you will be speaking with people who cannot communicate in english very well so patience is needed when you are establishing your network of farmers.

You also want a good list of farmers in case they get banned or disappear for a while like mine have.
