80 PvP Guide
This is for all you guys who either didn't have time to PvP before level 80 and have no idea how it works, what it is or what to do, or you're just not very intelligent and don't know what to do at all unless someone writes it down and explains it for you. Whichever one you are, hopefully you keep reading and learn a thing or two from this very simple guide.
FAQs:
Q: What is PvP?
A: PvP is player versus player, which is basically a combat system which allows you to battle with other players. Carebears often don't like PvP and will stick to their PvE raiding stuff.
Q: What are battlegrounds?
A: Battlegrounds are basically games that you can play which allow you to interact with other players who are in search of one common goal. You wanna do as many battlegrounds as you can to stock up on honor.
Q: How many battlegrounds are there and what are they good for?
A: There are approximately 5 battlegrounds, 6 if you include Wintergrasp which is for 80's only. They include Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley, Eye of The Storm, and Strand of the Ancients. Battlegrounds are good if you want to stock up on honor or get some marks.
Q: Marks?
A: Marks are basically items that you get for competing in a battleground. You will get one for every loss you have in a battleground and three for every win you have in a battleground. You can have a maximum of 100 marks per battleground. Marks are used to redeem extra honor through a quest your neighborhood Warbringer gives you and can also be used to buy various items.
Q: I can buy items?
A: Yes, in your local PvP item keep place. You need tons of honor to buy items and that's why you shouldn't be asking so many damn questions and be PvPing.
Warsong Gulch
This battleground is capture the flag. Lets put it that way. You have one of two objectives. Sit back and defend the flag from the opposing faction or help get the opposing faction's flag. If you're on offense, you want to make sure that if you're going to carry the flag that you're not squishy. Cloth wearers or people with low health should not be carrying the flag because they're the easiest to kill. When the flag carrier dies, he drops the flag and it can be returned to the base or picked up by a friendly player. The objective of the game is to get the other team's flag and return it to where your flag is while your flag is still in your base. Simple, capture-the-flag tactics. WSG can last for an hour or two depending on if the teams turtle or not. Turtling includes both teams holding the flag in sneaky places and two or three people keep checking where the flag carriers are and this can persue for hours. So, get some popcorn and get ready for a long wait.
Arathi Basin
This battleground consists of five different nodes. There is Farm, Stables, Gold Mine, Lumber Mill and Blacksmith. Your goal is to capture at least 3 of the 5 and hold them till you have collected 2000 points. The basic way to win this game is to have 5 people at 3 of the nodes and just defend your nodes, however this procedure leads to a 20-30 minute game depending on how long you control each node. If you have an impatient group, they'll be wanting to 5 cap right off the bat which is basically when you have all 5 nodes under your control. This is very hard to do but a 5 cap game usually lasts about 5 minutes. Basically, control at least 3 of the 5 nodes and you win.
Alterac Valley
You start in a snowy cave, your objective is to kill the opposing faction's warleader. You kill the minor leaders first and then capture as many of their graveyards as you can. Once you capture their graveyards and kill their minor leaders, you make your way to the warleader hut/keep. Destroy all the towers that you can so that the marshals disappear. Kill the warleader and you win the game. Pretty simple. I haven't taking too much of a liking to AV and I don't think I ever will. It's quite boring, but awards a ton of honor.
Eye of The Storm
This is somewhat similar to AB and WSG. There are 4 bases. You want to control at least 2 of the bases and keep on capturing the flag at one of your bases. The flag can be found at the very middle of the map. To control a base, all you have to do is stand near the base and there will be a bar that tells you how close you are to controlling it and who is controlling it presently. Having all 4 bases makes the game go by very fast and capturing the flag awards you even more points. First to 2000 wins.
Strand of the Ancients
There are 5 gates and a Chamber of Relics. Your goal is to get to the Chamber of Relics. Make it go bye-bye and capture the titan relic. There are siege vehicles called Demolishers that are used to destroy the gates. Once you destroy a gate, you progress in the map and make your way towards the chamber of relics. You can obtain a seaforium charge which you can set by a door that explodes after 10 seconds. It damages a gate and can be used if you don't like Demolishers.
To sum it up, you get in Demolishers or acquire seaforium chargers, blow up the doors/gates leading to the chamber of relics. Make the chamber of relics door explode and capture the titan relic. Pretty basic.
So after reading this guide, you should have a basic understanding to what PvP is and what each battleground is. Have fun and don't suck.
