    Guide to Wintergrasp

So there's been alot of Wintergrasp Exploits and guides going around, so i'd thought i'd compile them and add a bit of my own knowledge about how things work.

    Table of Index:
    i. Getting into Wintergrasp at any level
ii. A General Guide to Wintergrasp
    iii.Wintergrasp Guide 4 Levels under 70
iv. A guide to the Siege Vehicles
    v. Get to the Orb [Exploit]

    i. Getting to Wintergrasp at Any Level

There are a couple of different ways to get there, but the ones I'm going to focus on are the ones that are a little less obvious.

    a) Mages Port

Mages have been getting rich off people wanting ports to Dalaran (which can subsequently port to any of your Factions major cities as well as Shattrah). Advertising in chat is one way of going about it, but i find the way to get a better response is to very politely ask a mage who is close to you whether he/she would mind porting you to X (in this case, Dalaran). You usually get a kind response, and most of the time they are willing.

    b) Warlocks Summon

This requires a Warlock to be in Dalaran (so to find one, type /who dalaran and then sort by Class). It also requires him to have two people willing to help him summon. This is the main problem, as many expect you to have people there to help them, rather than them finding those people. This means you should ask them (politely, of course), whether they could find two people to help them before they agree on the deal.

    c) BG Lineup

This requires someone in Dalaran of the same BG level bracket (e.g. 10-19, 20-29 etc.) as you. They invite you into a group, sign the group up to a BG in Dalaran and then when the BG pops, the party member being summoned /afks out or waits until the end of the BG, and he should be summoned to the place the Leader signed up for the BG (in this case, in Dalaran)

*Disclaimer* I have not used the above technique for a while, so it might not work. Confirmation would be great.

Here is where the wintergrasp portal is for each faction. (Inn is also located, as when you port out of Wintergrasp, you will go back to your inn. For this reason, if you intend to stay in Dalaran, place you Hearthstone to your respective Inn.)

    A General Guide to Wintergrasp

Wintergrasp is a new type of BG / World PvP Event on a set timer, and does not wait for set ammounts from either faction. It is realm based only, and features Siege Vehicles and destructible buildings.

The objective depends on whether you control the Wintergrasp Fortress or not. If you control it, to win you have to either

    a) Destroy all of the small towers and siege workshops scattered on the lower half of the map

    b) Defend the Keep for the 40 minutes Wintergrasp lasts for.

If you do not control the Fortress, you aim is to destroy the gate and then click on the orb deep inside the fortress.

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King is the official line on it.

To be able to make a Catapult (the weakest and first siege vehicle) you need the buff 'Corporal', which comes from killing a PvP mob (or player). From there, subsquent killing raises your rank to the next level (Lieutenant) which enables you to make all vehicles.

You cannot travel between sections in the fortress normally, and must go outside the fortress and come back in using one of the portals on the ground outside the walls.

However, mostly this guide is dedicated to using wintergrasp as a place for honour, experience and gold, rather than just honour that level 80's use it for. Controlling Wintergrasp increase experience and allows for the gathering of Stone Keeper's Shards that can be turned in for rewards, which is a good reason to want to win.

iii. Wintergrasp Guide for levels under 70

So here's the main part of the guide, and the stuff i have the most experience with.

You see, Wintergrasp is easily accessible by anyone who can get to the portal in Dalaran (any level). This means that even level 1's can enter a level 80 world PvP event.

A level 1 wouldn't make a difference in any other BG or World PvP Event, but in Wintergrasp, a level 1 counts almost as much as a levl 80.

Siege Vehicles don't scale, so a level 1 in a tank has just as much chance to kill a level 80 in a tank. This means level 1's can be competitive and it also means that level 1's can kill things. But you have a choice:

    1) Kill Players:

You play the game the way it's meant to be played and you'll get incredible honour (i have 6K+ honour on a level 7 who i started half a week ago and played pretty casually). Guards give experience, so you can get a bit of that, but they don't have any loot, despite their deceptively shining corpses. This will also help your team win and is probably more fun.

    2) Killer elementals:

This can lead to some *decent* experience but pretty incredible money. If you can get a clean run, expect 15-20g just in vendor trash, and anywhere from 40-150g in Eternals (more on that later).

Of course, there is a way to combine both, to give you the honour at the end of the game, the money from the elementals, and also the experience.

    The Game Plan

    1. Kill a guard or player

This is to get the corporal buff to allow the creation of Catapults. If your defending, get in a Mounted Gun and target siege vehicles (try and kill others if you can, but they can be harder to hit). If your attacking, group with a nice high level who can help you kill a guard, or roll you out a vehicle. The reason i don't include defending players into the strategy of getting someone to roll you out a catapult comes down to the fact that you've got just as good of a chance to get the buff as they do. The best place to get in a Mounted GUn is:

    (imo, ofc )

    2. Get yourself a Catapult

Unless your very lucky and your Rank 2 already, you need to roll out a catapult. When your in the catapult, especially if you don't have the Corporal Buff (rank 1), go and kill more players (or preferably guards) until you get Rank 2. When you have rank 2, go and get a

    3. Siege Engine

People might disagree with me here, because it might not do as much damage, but i've found its much better. They don't go down quickly, and they have a decent 'Shunt' move.

    4. Kill Elementals

It's up to you which to kill, but i've found a place that i think is the best Wintergrasp is going to see. Your farming Shadow Elementals, here:

Firstly because of they're proximity to each other, and secondly because Eternal Shadow (comprised from 10 Crystalized Shadow) can be transmuted into Eternal Life, which is vastly more expensive, especially with its inclusion in the recipies for the new Darkmoon Faire Decks.

    5. Your tactic

Not very complicated, you simply hold down back and shunt whenever the cooldown is up. They should hit you roughly once before you push them back again.

    Other Notes

    1. You ARE going to die. Alot.

So don't do what i did and rez at the spirit healer when trying to get out of that area and see how far you run before you rez back there. Run to your corpse after you die the first time and go from there.

    2. You "cannot" (effectively) heal siege engines. If you can afford to replace one, do it.

    3. Make sure nothing will agro you when you get out of your tank to loot or w/e. That will really put a dampener on your mood, trust me.

    4. Don't try and run from anyone. It doesn't work, and you lose the chance to do some damage or destroy someone.

    5. Experience of Elementals scales with level, and is not a good way to get experience. Don't expect god mode.

    MORE COMING LATER!!
