Gold storing Tip (Hide your money)

I know this may be such a minor thing, but considering what it's done for me I thought I'd mention it.

KEEP GOLD ON A LOW LEVEL ALT

I was recently keylogged and had roughly 19,000 gold. 16,000 was on a low level alt. When I realized i had been keylogged, I phoned blizzard and got my account back. After 30hrs of not being able to access my account, I realized that the hackers had immediately went for my high level chars and left my low levels alone. The 3000 on my 70s was gone, but my level 1 bank alt still had the rest.

One could say an even better tactic is to create many level 1 characters and have one in the middle be a bank characters.

Now obviously this isn't a guarantee, and perhaps I was just lucky. But I think it's worth mentioning.


Summary:
16,000 gold on bank alt
3,000 gold on 70s
- Got Keylogged
- 30hours pass
- account restored
16,000 gold on level 1 remained
0 gold on 70s.

EDIT:
Additional tips posted in thread:
- Give money to a midrange character (mage works best)
- Put money in a guild bank only that character belongs to.
- Keep character far from major city.

Also to all the haters, I have not clicked any ambiguous links, downloaded any warez, or anything of that matter. I run firefox with script blocker, have a reliable virus scan and fire wall and was STILL HACKED. (By a downloaded mod I believe, anyone here not use mods? Didnt think so.)

this only works if you haven't got the bagnon addon, else they can see how many money you got on this server... same goes with titanbar

fail. Those addons require several things for you to be able to see the gold across your characters.

A. You have to have the addon. Account hackers may or may not have them, doesn't matter though refer to B.

B. You have to log in each character for the data to be updated for each character. So the addons don't even work the way you assume being that you have to log in each character anyway, the server doesn't push the data for each character when you only log one in.

C. OP got lucky. If I stole accounts I would check the low level characters assumeing they may be for putting up auctions.

A even better way would be to have a level lets say anything above 8, but not too high either. Maybe between 8 and 16. Then make a guild with that character and store all the gold in the guild bank. Place the character way away from a bank for ultimate effect, this is if yer really scared to be hacked. Doubt the hacker would ever find yer money this way.

If I'd scam I would instantly go to the lvl 1 chars when they are standing in a capital city. It's really obvious that they are most likely bankchars and posess a filled wallet.
Something I wouldn't look for are level 12-17 or 20-27 chars that are standing in the barrens or ashenvale. Level 10 could also be bankchar - 18/19, 28/29 are most likely PvP Twinks which are also worth looking at.
Just my 2 cents, I don't scam (Mostly because I can't bother learning...)

Or..... Don't get keylogged by going on web sites which contain .cz or download addons from curse.com

On the other side what i do is that i make a guild bank on a alt that i lvl on the same realm as my main. I store the gold on the gbank and have another character which is my bank char which can only deposit gold not withdraw. So i have to use my lvling char to withdraw if i need any extra gold. Safe and ez.

eh... when i hack/crack someones acc i usually go for the lvl 60-80 first then the lvl 1s but first the lvl 1s if their name is "*SOMETHINGHERE*Bank*

Also, don't have 'Bank' in your name, otherwise it's a bit of a giveaway. But yeah, having heaps of alts, level 1 (make sure they have normal names, makes them think your saving names).

If you want to be real cautious, leave

a) Them all in a main city
b) NOne of them (run your bank alt to durotar - less conspicuous).

But the best hing of all...
